Location: Brooklyn, NY On-site

Position Type: Internship (Part-Time: 10–15 hours/week)

Duration: Fall / Spring Summer Semester

About Creative Outlet

Jamel Gaines Creative Outlet (JGCO) Dance Theatre is a premier Brooklyn-based contemporary dance company best known for its riveting, thought-provoking, and relatable repertory. For over 25 years, JGCO has merged dance performance and arts education to impact communities locally and globally.

Internship Overview

Are you a student passionate about arts administration, creative producing, and project management? JGCO is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and proactive Producing Intern to support the development and execution of high-level programs, domestic artistic initiatives, and international projects.

Unlike a general administrative or company management role focused purely on day-to-day personnel logistics, this internship offers direct exposure to the strategic and creative architecture of producing. You will learn how major arts initiatives, tours, and cultural exchanges are built from concept to reality.

Key Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities

  • Program Development & Research: Learn how high-level artistic and educational initiatives are structured by researching potential partner venues, cultural festivals, and international residency opportunities.
  • Contract & Partner Administration: Gain experience supporting presenter agreements, venue contracts, and partner communications locally across New York and internationally.
  • Budget Tracking & Financial Planning: Learn how multi-project production budgets are built, managed, and reconciled across line-item revenue and expense targets.
  • Touring & International Logistics: Assist leadership in organizing high-level international operations, including visa documentation, travel protocols, and international cultural compliance.
  • Cross-Departmental Coordination: Collaborate with technical production, marketing, and development teams to ensure program timelines and project milestones stay on schedule.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Current college student or recent graduate in Arts Administration, Performing Arts, Theatre/Dance, Business, or International Relations.
  • Interest in the business side of the performing arts, program management, or creative producing.
  • Strong written, verbal, and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to track multiple deadlines.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
  • Knowledge of a second language (e.g., French, Spanish) or interest in international arts exchange is a plus.
