Marketing & Communications Coordinator

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Marketing & Communications Coordinator
Reports to: President and CEO
Hours: Full-Time (40 hours per week; some evenings and weekends for events)
Location: On-site – Lafayette, IN, with regular travel across our 11-county region
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary: $55,000 per year
Benefits: 100% employer-paid employee health insurance; eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Overview

Mental Health America – Wabash Valley Region (MHA-WVR) is north central Indiana’s leading mental health and substance use advocacy organization, working to promote mental wellness, prevention, education, advocacy, and recovery across 11 counties.

Position Summary

The Marketing & Communications Coordinator will execute MHA-WVR’s marketing, communications, and community engagement efforts in alignment with the organization’s Strategic Plan. This hands-on, creative role helps our communities know who we are, understand what we offer, and know how to connect with our services.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Marketing & Community Activation

  • Execute marketing initiatives aligned with MHA-WVR’s Strategic Plan.
  • Promote MHA-WVR programs, services, events, and community initiatives across our 11-county region.
  • Support campaigns that increase awareness, engagement, referrals, and utilization of MHA-WVR services.
  • Maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, businesses, media, and other partners.

Brand, Content & Digital Marketing

  • Strengthen and consistently represent the MHA-WVR brand, mission, and values.
  • Create content that tells MHA-WVR’s story across social media, website, email, newsletters, print materials, and presentations.
  • Manage MHA-WVR’s social media platforms and content calendar, including posts, graphics, and video.
  • Follow mental health and suicide safe-messaging guidelines in all public communications.

Events, Fundraising & Reporting

  • Coordinate promotion and logistics for external events and awareness campaigns, including signature fundraising events such as Mocktail Monday.
  • Support development staff with donor communications, including email appeals, stewardship content, and program stories and photos for grant reports.
  • Track marketing, social media, email, and event metrics and report accurate, verifiable results to leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or a related field required; Master’s preferred.
  • Recent graduates, including MS Marketing graduates, are encouraged to apply.
  • 0–2 years of experience in marketing, communications, or community engagement; internships and volunteer experience count.
  • Strong writing, communication, organizational, and project-management skills.
  • Familiarity with social media, digital content creation, and event planning.
  • Proficiency with Canva or similar design tools, Meta Business Suite, email marketing platforms, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with mental health topics and safe-messaging practices preferred; lived experience is welcome.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
