Financial Advisory Practice Intern

RiverFront Group is one of Focus Financials’ largest practices located in NE Minneapolis. 

 

Position Overview

RiverFront Group is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team for an internship this coming summer of 2027.

As an Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of the financial planning process, wealth management, and client relationship management. Under the guidance of our team members, you will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the practice while learning about many aspects of the business.

 

This position will be a 12-week internship program starting the first business week after the end of the Spring semester. There is flexibility on the program’s start and end dates depending on the intern’s availability. A commitment of 30-40 hours per week is required. This is primarily an in-person role; the office is in NE Minneapolis. 

 

Learning Activities:

  • Case Analysis
    • Assist advisors with preparation of annual client reviews, including data gathering, creating agenda and meeting materials.
    • Participate in investment research and portfolio reviews.
    • Perform numerical calculations, enter data into applicable software.
    • Prepare charts, graphs, tables, and other visual aids to be used in implementation meetings.
    • Test the knowledge and skills you have obtained in school by applying them to real-world problems and situations.


 

  • Client Service
    • Shadow client meeting with lead financial professional.
    • Maintain client relationship management (CRM) system.
    • Complete client forms, maintain files and records.
    • Contribute to marketing and communication efforts such as client mailing reports, website updates, client events, and newsletters.
    • Assist with operational and administrative tasks related to client onboarding and account maintenance.
    • Special projects for the practice as assigned.
    • Recognize and suggest efficiencies where needed.

Preferred Knowledge and Competencies:

  • Detail-oriented, strong math and analytical skills.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • Strong PC and software skills, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with the financial planning concepts preferred.
  • Good interpersonal, oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Students beginning their junior or senior college in one of the following fields: Business Finance, Accounting, Economics, Financial Planning and those who want to deepen their understanding of the financial services industry and the financial planning profession.
  • Students who demonstrate a drive to succeed and have a strong interest in pursuing a career as a financial professional and/or Certified Financial Planner® designation after graduation.
  • Students with excellent leadership, communication, teamwork, and service skills.
  • Student must be able to work in the United States and must successfully pass a background check; this may include fingerprinting.

Selected intern will be expected to consistently follow high standards of business and professional ethics when dealing with others and/or performing work activities. Interns are required to follow legal and regulatory requirements and company policies while dealing with clients or performing work activities.
