HRIS Intern

Job Purpose

The HRIS Intern will support the Human Resources team in maintaining and improving the organization’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS). This position provides hands-on experience with HR data, employee records, reporting, system administration, and HR technology processes. The intern will assist with ensuring data accuracy, supporting HR system users, and contributing to projects that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of HR operations.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist with maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee information within the HRIS.
  • Support data entry, data validation, and routine audits to ensure HR records are accurate and complete.
  • Assist with generating standard HR reports and analyzing employee data as requested.
  • Support HRIS system updates, testing, and implementation of system changes.
  • Help troubleshoot basic HRIS issues and escalate more complex technical issues to appropriate team members or vendors.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes, including employee record updates and system access requests.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of employee information and HR records.
  • Assist with HRIS documentation, process guides, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support data cleanup and system improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with HR, Payroll, IT, and other departments on HRIS-related tasks.
  • Provide general administrative support to the HR team as needed.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • Ability to learn new software and technology quickly.
  • Familiarity with Excel functions such as filters, pivot tables, and basic formulas.
  • Interest in HR technology, people analytics, or HR operations.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of sensitive employee and organizational information.
  • Competencies: Problem-solving skills, Written and Verbal Communication, Teamwork & Collaboration, Attention to Detail, Self-Starter, Analytical skills, Problem-Solving, Organizational skills, Adaptability, Professionalism. 

 

Working Conditions

  • Position may require periodic evening and weekend work, as necessary to fulfill obligations.
  • This role is based in Xeris’ Chicago office and requires five days per week in the office. On-site requirement may change at management’s discretion.
