Full Stack Engineering Intern

Build technology that supports public services. You’ll contribute to real web applications using React and Django while learning how a government technology team develops, tests and maintains mission-driven products.

About Allegheny County DHS

Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) connects people in need with services that help. Each year, DHS and its network of 300+ community-based organizations serve more than 200,000 residents across Allegheny County. Interns contribute to real public-sector work while learning alongside professionals working in human services, data, technology, policy, communications and program operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and enhance features for React-based frontend applications.
  • Build and improve backend services using Django.
  • Write clear, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
  • Create technical documentation in Confluence and track work in Jira.
  • Assist with testing, debugging and troubleshooting application issues.

What You’ll Gain

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently enrolled in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related program.
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, REST APIs and core web-development concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
  • Helpful, but not required: JavaScript/React, Python/Django, SQL, Azure, Git or Agile experience.
