Content Strategist & Writer, Digital Marketing — Philosophy Majors
YOUR PHILOSOPHY DEGREE TRAINED YOU FOR THIS JOB.
We are specifically recruiting Philosophy majors—not despite your degree, but because of what it trained you to do.
Highland Park, Illinois | Full-Time | On Site Only | $42,000–$62,000
About Scholarships.com
Since 1999, Scholarships.com has helped more than 26 million students find money for college. We operate one of the internet’s largest scholarship search platforms, using content, data, and technology to make scholarship search more understandable, useful, and efficient for students and families.
Why We’re Looking for Philosophy Majors
If you studied Philosophy, you spent years learning how to examine an argument, define terms precisely, identify unstated assumptions, test whether conclusions actually follow from evidence, communicate complicated ideas clearly, and consider not only whether something can be done but whether it should be done.
If you’re the person who asks, “But what do you actually mean by that?” before everyone else charges ahead, that’s a feature here—not a tic.
Those aren’t peripheral skills in this position. They are at the heart of the job.
As a Content Strategist & Writer, Digital Marketing, you will help plan and execute targeted campaigns, create clear student-facing content, review scholarship information, analyze campaign results, and help us use technology intelligently and responsibly.
Your judgment will help us communicate clearly, make sound decisions from data, and keep our work accurate, transparent, and student-centered.
We value actual intelligence first: your reasoning, writing, judgment, and ability to recognize what a number, claim, argument, or recommendation does—and does not—show.
You do not need to arrive as an AI or digital-marketing expert. We can teach you platforms, processes, metrics, and tools.
The technology can be learned. The thinking is the hard part—and your Philosophy degree has already trained you to do it.
AI tools may help organize information, explore early content options, support reporting, analyze results, or check grammar and clarity. But you will be responsible for evaluating outputs, verifying facts, identifying assumptions, and deciding what is accurate, fair, useful, and ready to publish.
What You’ll Do
- Write with precision. Develop, update, and edit website pages, targeted email campaigns, and selected social content for students, parents, educators, and scholarship providers.
- Make complicated information clear. Organize scholarship information into content that is logically structured, accurate, understandable, and easy for students to act on.
- Communicate for the audience. Adapt message, tone, and structure and apply basic SEO practices—clear headings, focused keywords, and useful page structure—to improve discoverability and comprehension.
- Run targeted campaigns. Help plan and execute email, digital, and postal campaigns from brief to deployment: write and review content, check layouts, complete QA, coordinate details, and manage send schedules.
- Vet scholarship information. Review submissions and listings for clarity, completeness, eligibility requirements, deadlines, award amounts, and transparent descriptions. Notice ambiguity, missing information, and claims that don’t quite hold up.
- Reason from the results. Monitor campaign measures such as opens, clicks, and conversions; distinguish signal from noise, recognize what the data does and does not establish, and make practical recommendations.
- Reason with AI—not beneath it. Use AI tools for content options, analysis, reporting, quality checks, and workflow support. Ask what assumptions were made, what information is missing, whether the conclusion follows, and what should be independently verified before acting.
- Keep the operation organized. Maintain campaign, client, vendor, purchase order, insertion order, and billing records; identify and document improved workflows.
What We’re Looking For
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Philosophy majors are specifically encouraged to apply.
- Strong critical-thinking, argumentation, and reasoning skills; you notice unstated assumptions, unclear logic, unsupported conclusions, and language that could mislead.
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills; you can make complicated information precise, direct, and readable.
- Sound ethical judgment and the ability to weigh trade-offs, consequences, and competing considerations.
- Research instincts and the willingness to verify a claim rather than simply accept it.
- Attention to detail and a practical project-management approach to balancing multiple deadlines.
- Curiosity, intellectual flexibility, and the ability to learn unfamiliar subjects and tools quickly.
- Comfort learning digital tools, including email platforms, spreadsheets, CMS tools, dashboards, basic marketing analytics, and AI tools used as support—not substitutes for reasoning, judgment, or your own work.
Relevant experience through employment, internships, campus organizations, research, publications, student media, independent projects, or comparable work is preferred.
Exceptional recent Philosophy graduates are encouraged to apply.
Experience with digital marketing, SEO, email platforms, analytics, CMS tools, spreadsheets, Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or similar technologies is helpful—but not a prerequisite for a strong candidate.
We would rather find someone who knows how to reason, question, write, judge, verify, and learn than someone who simply knows how to operate today’s software.
What You’ll Gain
- Hands-on experience applying the reasoning, clarity, argumentation, and judgment of a Philosophy education to real-world professional decisions.
- Practical skills in digital marketing, content strategy, SEO, targeted email campaigns, campaign QA, analytics, performance reporting, and scholarship-data curation.
- Experience using AI and other technology responsibly: identifying what can be streamlined, what requires additional evidence, and what must receive human review.
- Direct exposure to leadership and collaboration with marketing, operations, and product/engineering colleagues.
- A foundation for growth into more senior content, marketing, operations, or product responsibilities.
