Prosecutor Investigator

Purpose of Position

 

The purpose of this position is to perform investigation tasks in preparing cases for prosecution, under direction of the Greene County Prosecutor and supervision of the Chief Assistant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all- inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Locate victims and witnesses for testimony. Provide in-office security.

Provide security for victims and witnesses to and from the court room.

 

Take statements from victims, witnesses, and defendants to assist in prosecution. Assist in preparing exhibits for trial.

Photograph evidence, witnesses, and/or crime scenes in preparation for trial. Personally serve subpoenas to uncooperative witnesses.

Transport victims and/or witnesses lacking transportation for court, depositions, or meetings with a prosecutor.

Maintain the evidence room in the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office.

 

Pick up evidence from the law enforcement agency and transport it to and from the courthouse for trial or other hearings when needed.

Copy audio and/or video recordings for discovery purposes. Assist in obtaining photographs from the crime lab.


 

Accompany prosecutor off campus for crime scene inspections or witness interviews

 

Be a team player, understanding that the primary focus of the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office is to seek justice for all.

Follow the directives and policies of the Greene County Prosecutor. Prepare exhibits for the court of appeals.

Assist in internal investigations at the direction of the Greene County Prosecutor.

 

Additional Tasks and Responsibilities

 

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

Obtains prior conviction records of defendants.

 

Performs various public relation functions and maintains contact with other law enforcement agencies. Testifies at trial or other hearings when needed.

Escorts jail inmates for in-office interviews. Edit audio and/or video recordings.

Assist in monitoring inmate phone calls. Assist in monitoring inmate mail.

Assist in background check of jury panel.

 

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

 

Certified Missouri peace officer, six years’ law enforcement experience with extensive investigation experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
