POSITION OVERVIEW
National Review is seeking a skilled, editorially sharp Long-Form Video Editor to produce high-quality full-length videos for YouTube and other long-form platforms. This role focuses on editing commentary segments, interviews, and panel discussions that reflect NR's mission and maintain high production value. This is a full-time, in-office position based in Washington, DC, ideal for an editor who excels at narrative structure, pacing, and viewer retention in longer formats.
The editor will work closely with the Executive Producer, writers, and on-air talent to assemble multi-camera footage, integrate B-roll and graphics, and deliver polished episodes that uphold NR's editorial standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Edit long-form videos, including op-eds (10 to 15 minutes), interviews (60 to 90 minutes), and panel discussions, optimized primarily for YouTube.
- Assemble multi-camera footage, integrate B-roll, graphics, lower-thirds, and animated elements.
- Perform color correction, audio cleanup, and pacing adjustments to maintain viewer engagement.
- Collaborate with editorial staff and talent to refine story structure, select key moments, and ensure editorial accuracy.
- Flag and timestamp compelling segments with potential for short-form repurposing during the long-form editing process.
- Draft SEO-informed titles, descriptions, and tags for review by the Associate Producer and final approval by the Executive Producer. Use audience-retention and other platform analytics to inform future edits.
- Maintain brand consistency and editorial standards under tight deadlines, with most edits delivered within 24 to 48 hours of source material lock.
- Handle multiple projects simultaneously and communicate proactively with the production team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3–5 years of professional video editing experience, ideally in news, political commentary, documentary, or digital media.
- Expert-level proficiency in DaVinci Resolve and/or Adobe Premiere Pro (After Effects a plus).
- A strong portfolio. Please submit links to at least 3 long-form videos you have edited (YouTube links preferred).
- Excellent storytelling instincts. You know how to structure a 60-minute interview for maximum retention.
- Ability to work efficiently under deadline pressure and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Comfort working on-site in DC, Monday through Friday, with occasional flexibility for breaking news or live events.
- Comfort working during core Eastern Time business hours for editorial collaboration.
- Personal sense of humility, respect for others, and a commitment to continually learn and improve.
- A belief in the principles of America's founding, including individual liberty, limited government, economic freedom, personal responsibility, and traditional values.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
STANDOUT CANDIDATES MAY BRING:
- Experience editing for YouTube growth (titles, thumbnails, retention editing).
- Basic scriptwriting or social copywriting skills.
- Familiarity with YouTube Studio analytics and social platform best practices.
- Ability to create custom thumbnails and basic motion graphics.
