Position Summary
Home Fashions International is seeking a creative, organized, and detail-oriented Design Assistant to support our Design and Product Development team.
This position is ideal for someone who has an eye for design but also enjoys the organization and coordination that happens behind the scenes. The Design Assistant will help manage the sampling process, maintain design files and archives, assist with product photography, and provide day-to-day support to our designers.
The goal of this position is to help keep projects organized and moving efficiently so our designers can focus more of their time on design, product development, and new ideas.
Key Responsibilities
Samples & Coordination
- Prepare and write sample orders and follow up on their progress
- Photograph incoming samples for review
- Organize and maintain samples for the design team
- Coordinate the shipment of samples to customers
- Assist with tracking samples throughout the development and approval process
- Maintain accurate information using Microsoft Excel and Word
Design Support
- Organize and archive print files, woven development, and other design materials
- Collect and organize files and samples for designers
- Assign design numbers and color callouts
- Assist with color cards, basic design work, and presentations
- Help prepare design templates, comp shops, and other presentation materials
- Provide general support to the design team as needed
Photography
- Assist with light product and sample photography as needed
- Coordinate photography needs with Sales, Design, and overseas teams
- Help organize photography and packaging-related materials
Qualifications
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Basic understanding of color and design
- Comfortable working with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Some proficiency with Adobe Photoshop preferred
- Ability and willingness to learn basic design and color-printing processes
- Able to manage multiple projects and follow up consistently
- Collaborative and comfortable working with several departments
A degree or background in Design, Merchandising, Marketing, or a related field is preferred but not necessarily required. Recent graduates and candidates early in their careers are encouraged to apply.
