Molecular Biology Research Associate
Sci.bio is recruiting Molecular Biology Research Associates for a research organization in Somerville working at the intersection of biology and emerging technology.
This is a hands-on, independent lab role focused on DNA assembly and molecular cloning. It could be a particularly good fit for a recent graduate, Master's-level scientist, or current graduate student looking for meaningful bench experience and the opportunity to take real ownership of experimental work.
The Role
You’ll work independently on DNA assembly projects in a new, well-equipped BSL-1 laboratory. The role is intentionally structured around autonomy: you’ll be responsible for planning your work, troubleshooting experiments, managing project resources, and driving your project forward.
The work will include:
- DNA oligo and fragment design
- PCR and DNA assembly
- Molecular cloning
- Gel electrophoresis
- DNA purification
- Sequencing interpretation
- Primer design
- Experimental troubleshooting
- Use of molecular biology tools such as Benchling
You’ll also have the opportunity to use emerging computational and AI-based tools to support experimental design and troubleshooting.
What We’re Looking For
Candidates should currently hold or be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or a closely related field. Current PhD students are also welcome to apply.
You should have:
- At least 3 months of hands-on molecular biology research experience
- Experience with PCR, gel electrophoresis, and molecular cloning
- A working understanding of primer design
- Familiarity with tools such as Benchling
- The ability to work independently and troubleshoot experiments
- Strong attention to detail and good laboratory practices
Schedule
This is a 12-week, part-time assignment running from September 28 through December 18, 2026.
You’ll work four hours per day, Monday through Friday, on one of two consistent shifts:
- 8:45 AM–12:45 PM
- 1:15 PM–5:15 PM
