Modern Website Designer (Intern)

Modern Website Designer (1099/Intern)

About Us:

Peachtree Rose Marketing is a boutique content marketing agency and podcast studio in San Antonio, Texas. We specialize in systems-driven storytelling, using scalable workflows, AI tools, and modern SEO/AEO strategy to help brands grow.

We build websites for local business owners on our own content management system — not a page-builder plugin stack, and not a template farm. We're looking for a designer who understands that a website's job is to persuade a specific person to take a specific action.

Role Overview:

This role is ideal for someone who thinks like a marketer and designs like a communicator. You'll build client websites inside our proprietary CMS, which will feel immediately familiar to anyone who has worked in WordPress — pages, blocks, media library, publish button. You will not be writing code. You will be making design and messaging decisions, and you'll be judged on whether those decisions get a small business found and hired.

You'll also learn how modern discovery actually works. Ranking on Google still matters. But clients are increasingly found through answer engines — ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini — and structuring a site so those systems can read, trust, and cite it is a skill almost nobody has yet. You'll learn it here.

Scope of Work Includes:

  • Design and build client websites in our custom CMS (WordPress-like interface, no HTML/CSS required)
  • Translate a client's brand, offer, and ideal customer persona into page structure and layout
  • Write clear, human, non-AI-sounding web copy aimed at a defined target audience
  • Apply website design fundamentals: visual hierarchy, whitespace, contrast, mobile-first layout, and conversion-focused CTA placement
  • Build and optimize service pages, location pages, and FAQ content for both traditional search and answer engines
  • Source, crop, compress, and caption imagery; keep pages fast and clean
  • Use AI platforms with our prompt frameworks to draft, test, and refine — never to publish unedited
  • Quality-check every build: broken links, mobile rendering, form submissions, page speed, metadata
  • Document what works so the next build is faster than the last one

What You'll Learn (Beyond the Basics):

  • Our proprietary AI prompt frameworks and how operators use them to produce content that doesn't read like a machine wrote it
  • Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) — how to structure content so ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini surface and cite your client
  • How to research and write to an ideal customer persona instead of writing to everyone
  • How a multi-tenant CMS is built, managed, and scaled across a client portfolio
  • How to turn a website from a brochure into a lead-generating asset a small business owner can actually measure

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Critical thinking and common sense skills as well as ability to read the room
  • Working familiarity with WordPress or a comparable CMS — you can build a page without a tutorial open
  • Understanding of website design best practices; a portfolio, class project, or personal site we can look at
  • Solid marketing fundamentals: you know what a value proposition is and can spot a weak headline
  • Strong writer in plain human English — clear, specific, and free of AI filler
  • Comfortable using AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) and able to explain what makes a prompt good
  • HTML/CSS is not required. Design tools (Canva, Figma), Google Workspace, or Notion experience is a plus
  • Detail-oriented, self-directed, and able to work inside a documented system

Details:

Term: Ongoing project-based contract

Contracted Pay/hr depending on expertise (1099), paid bi-weekly by invoice

Location: San Antonio preferred; remote considered for the right candidate

How to Apply:

Send a resume, a link to 1–3 websites you've designed or contributed to, and a brief letter of interest.

🎯 Bonus: Pick any local San Antonio business with a weak website. Send us a short note — three paragraphs max — explaining who their ideal customer is and the first three things you'd change on their homepage to win that customer. We care far more about this than your resume.

This is a paid 1099 contractor position. Contractors are responsible for invoicing and tax obligations. Flexible scheduling available. Successful contractors may be offered expanded scope, retained work, or employment opportunities.
