Role: Marketing & Communications Intern

Position Summary 

Girls Inc. of Chicago is seeking a creative, organized, and motivated Marketing & Communications Intern between the ages of 18-24 years old to support marketing, communications, storytelling, and development efforts. 

The intern will gain hands on experience creating content, supporting digital marketing, organizing communications assets, maintaining email data, and assisting with fundraising campaigns and events. 

This role is ideal for someone interested in marketing, communications, social media, digital media, public relations, or nonprofit development. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Content & Digital Marketing 

  • Capture photos, video, B roll, testimonials, and program or event highlights. 
  • Assist with social media content creation, including graphics, captions, short form video, and promotional materials. 
  • Create and update flyers, graphics, presentations, and other materials using Canva and approved templates. 
  • Help organize photos, videos, templates, and other marketing assets. 

 

Email & Analytics 

  • Support email list maintenance, including reviewing bounced, duplicate, incomplete, or outdated records. 
  • Assist with newsletters, email campaigns, and digital communications. 
  • Track basic social media and email performance metrics and help compile recurring reports. 

 

Development & Campaign Support 

  • Support marketing and communications for fundraising campaigns, sponsorships, donor engagement, and special events. 
  • Assist with selected donor and sponsor outreach, auction preparation, paddle pledge follow up, and campaign related projects. 
  • Provide additional marketing and communications support as needed. 

 

Qualifications 

Successful candidates will demonstrate: 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong organization and attention to detail. 
  • Creativity and an interest in digital storytelling. 
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms. 
  • Comfort using Canva or willingness to learn. 
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a team. 
  • Interest in the mission of Girls Inc. of Chicago. 

 

Preferred Skills 

  • Experience with any of the following is helpful and not required: 
  • Photography or videography. 
  • Short form video editing. 
  • Canva or graphic design platforms. 
  • Email marketing platforms. 
  • Social media analytics or scheduling tools. 
  • CRM (Customer Relationship Management) or contact database systems. 
  • Fundraising, event planning, or nonprofit communications.
