Business Management Intern

Role Summary

College Works Painting gives college and university students hands-on experience running a small business: managing a crew, selling residential painting contracts, and building leadership skills in their own community — while earning money toward their education.

Primary Responsibilities

Build and execute a local marketing plan

Conduct sales meetings with prospective clients and make regular field sales calls to secure painting contracts throughout the season

Interview, hire, and manage a crew of painting laborers

Handle local PR and social media for your business

Own budgeting, cost management, and quality control for painting projects

Provide customer service throughout each project

Commit part-time during the spring semester and full-time during the summer

Visiting and supervising all job sites in person daily and making sure crews have all equipment and materials needed to efficiently complete the jobs

Minimum Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must have a car and a valid driver's license or reliable transportation to job sites. 

Open to students of all years and majors

Qualifications

Strong work ethic and personal accountability

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated leadership ability

Resourceful, creative problem-solving skills

Highly developed customer service skills

Professional demeanor

2–3 years of work experience preferred; prior experience working 30+ hours/week a plus

Compensation & Benefits

Base plus uncapped commission. Most interns earn $6,000–$60,000 over the season. Earnings scale with sales performance, with top performers earning commissions up to $60,000 over the course of the internship.

Timeline & Work Schedule

Offers extended on a rolling basis

September–March: 1-hour training workshop per month

March: training begins, approximately 10–20 hours/week

May–August: full internship, approximately 40+ hours/week

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, see, talk, and hear. The employee may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds.
