Position Description
The CanalWay Center is looking for an intern who would like hands-on experience in the career of a Naturalist. This person will work with the staff to learn the skills needed to have a career in environmental education or interpretation.
Schedule
- Fall (September-December)
- Flexible duration and weekly commitment
- Weekdays or weekends, hours may vary due to center needs
- 1-2 Available Positions

Responsibilities and Requirements
Key Responsibilities and activities may include (but are not limited to):
- Shadow staff on hikes and interpretive programs
- Assist as needed with preparation, during the program, and clean up
- Assisting with the daily operation of the welcome desk of the center
- Participate in event tables and drop-by tables to educate public on local wildlife
- Assisting with animal care – includes: tank cleaning, animal feeding, and learning about our education animal ambassadors to interact with the public
- Assisting in the maintenance of pollinator garden areas and projects
- Other duties as needed or inquired
Requirements
- Access to reliable transportation for intern shift
- Able to follow through with tasks as assigned
- Willing and able to work in a variety of weather conditions
- Must maintain a professional appearance and demeaner while working
- Interest in the environmental education field as a career path.
- Also accepted career paths: biology, education, or parks & recreation
