Title: Life and Career Design Institute Student Intern
Reports to (Position and Name): Interim Director of Career Navigation - Beth Moriarty
Summary of Position:
The Life and Career Design Institute at Wheaton College seeks motivated, curious, and detail-oriented students to serve as Student Interns during the academic year. These donor-funded positions provide students with an opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on experience while contributing to the work and priorities of the Institute.
Life and Career Design Institute Student Interns will work closely with members of the team on projects that support student engagement, career development, experiential learning, signature programs, communications, employer and community engagement, and other Institute initiatives.
Because Life and Career Design Institute’s work is dynamic, specific assignments may vary based on the needs and priorities of the Institute. Interns will be supervised by the Life and Career Design Institute staff member responsible for the project or initiative to which they are assigned.
This is an opportunity for students to contribute to the growth of an emerging Institute while developing transferable skills and gaining insight into the connections between a liberal arts education, experiential learning, career development, and life design.
Required Dates
Academic Year (Fall and Spring Semesters) 8–10 hours per week

- Creative and open to exploring new approaches to engaging students and supporting Life and Career Design Institute initiatives.
- Interest in career development, experiential learning, life design, communications, programming, or related areas is welcomed but not required.
Job Compensation
Duties & Responsibilities
Depending on the intern’s assigned project(s), responsibilities may include:
- Program Support: Assist with the planning, implementation, logistics, and follow-up for Life and Career Design Institute programs, events, and signature initiatives.
- Student Engagement: Support efforts to increase student awareness, participation, and engagement with Life and Career Design Institute programs, resources, and opportunities.
- Signature Programs: Provide project-based support for Life and Career Design Institute signature programs such as the Employer-in-Residence program, Life-Ready Lab, and other emerging initiatives.
- Career & Experiential Learning Support: Assist with projects that connect students with internships, employment opportunities, experiential learning, employers, alumni, and members of the broader Wheaton community.
- Handshake & Opportunity Development: Support the organization and maintenance of career and experiential learning opportunities in Handshake, including helping to develop and maintain the Norton Community Collection and other relevant opportunity resources.
- Research & Data: Conduct research, gather information, organize data, and assist with projects designed to inform Life and Career Design Institute programs, student engagement, and future initiatives.
- Project-Based Support: Contribute to specific projects identified by Life and Career Design Institute staff, with responsibilities and deliverables determined in collaboration with the supervising staff member.
- Marketing & Communications: Assist with developing and implementing strategies to increase awareness of Life and Career Design Institute programs and opportunities. This may include creating content, developing promotional materials, supporting social media or digital communications, and identifying new ways to reach students.
- Administrative & Team Support: Assist with scheduling, preparation of materials, event logistics, documentation, and other activities that support the effective operation of the Institute.
- Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned in support of Life and Career Design Institute priorities and initiatives.

Students can only work a combined 15 hours per week between a maximum of 2 on-campus positions.
