PennEngineering is seeking motivated, excited, and innovative students for our 2027 intern program. As an intern at PennEngineering, you’ll gain hands-on experience, learn from experts, and collaborate with teams that do truly amazing things. Join us as we build the future in Engineering!
Over the course of our 10–12-week summer internship experience you will have the opportunity to:
- Work directly with a mentor in your field of study while finding solutions to real world problems
- Experience our products up close by working in our manufacturing and research facilities
- Interact directly with our company leaders to discuss strategy and the future of PennEngineering
- Build a lasting professional network through social events and engaging activities
- Gain the skills and knowledge to become a future leader
- Support engineering projects in manufacturing, operations, or technology development.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Experience and learn the fundamentals of LEAN manufacturing
- Enhance working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD via design of fixturing, tools, ergonomics assists, etc.
- Utilize Microsoft Office suite of software to create process flow diagrams and presentations
- Perform time studies and apply the data to justify systematic change
- Enhance interpersonal communication skills by working directly with operations and leadership staff
- Use quantitative and qualitative data to provide specific recommendations to plant leadership on how to reduce waste and improve efficiency of existing manufacturing processes.
- Assist Continuous Improvement team with plantwide LEAN and 5-S initiatives such as audits and standardized work creation.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Current student working towards a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or something similar
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of software
- Working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD. Ideally AutoCAD or Creo.
- Proactive self-starter with an eagerness to learn
- Strong interpersonal communication skillset
- Strong public speaking skillset
- Must be able to navigate entire facility and be on their feet for at least 1-hour intervals
- Visual acuity for detailed work
