Utah Lunch Debt Relief Foundation
Hybrid · Mid-September through December [2026] · 5–10 hrs/week · $500/month
Utah students carry millions of dollars in school lunch debt. We pay it off school by school, help families enroll in free and reduced-price meals, and push for a permanent statewide fix. Since 2024 we've raised over $600,000, cleared the debt at 80+ Utah schools, and helped pass HB 100. It's written into our charter that this foundation dissolves once Utah goes a full year without school lunch debt — we're trying to put ourselves out of business.
We're small, so you'll do real work with visible results instead of shadowing someone. Part of your week is on the phone with a family who didn't know they qualified for free meals. Part of it is building the case we take to legislators. Both matter.
What you'll do
- Call families who may qualify for free or reduced-price meals, and walk them through the application
- Collect lunch debt balances from school and district nutrition offices, and keep our tracking records clean
- Help plan and run check presentations, fundraisers, and community events
- Draft social media posts, flyers, and donor thank-yous
- Track Utah school meal legislation and help prepare advocacy materials
- General administrative and project support
What we're looking for
- Comfortable talking with strangers on the phone, including about money
- Clear writing, and reliable enough to follow up without being reminded
- Spanish fluency is a significant plus, but not required
