Acquisition Program Manager
Position Description:
An Acquisition Program Manager (PM) is the individual responsible for managing a defense acquisition program covering every aspect of the acquisition process. They are responsible for balancing the many factors that influence cost, schedule, and performance to ensure that high quality, affordable, supportable, and effective defense systems are delivered to the warfighter in a timely manner. PMs integrate and lead multi-functional teams in executing the mission.
Project and program teams are the driving force that translates warfighter requirements into executable programs. Aircraft, jet engines, rockets and missiles, satellites, and automated information systems give our Armed Forces the most sophisticated and respected air, space, and cyberspace capability in the world.
Program management is challenging and rewarding, operating in continuously changing threat environments, technological challenges, and increasingly constrained fiscal environments. The Air Force needs PMs who are multi-skilled and have the intrinsic motivation to step up to the challenge. Air Force acquisition PMs are developed through a variety of educational, training, and duty experiences. They are not only experts in their field, but also leaders who understand the global business environment within the context of the Air Force mission.

- Salary: Positions starting at GS-07 or 09. Click here to view GS Pay Scale. Candidates who meet their performance expectations receive automatic promotions/salary increases annually until they reach their target grade of NH-03. After reaching a NH-03, further promotions become competitive, however, potential for growth exists beyond the NH-03 level, dependent upon your future performance.
- Student Loan Repayment: Up to $30K.
- Tuition Assistance: 100% towards 1st graduate degree while in the PAQ program.
- Leave and Holidays: There are 11 paid federal holidays, plus you accrue sick and annual leave during every two-week pay period. Sick leave is accrued at 4 hours per pay period (13 days per year) throughout your career. Annual leave is accrued at 4 hours per pay period (0-3 years of service), then 6 hours per pay period (3-15 years), and ultimately 8 hours per pay period (over 15 years).
- Retirement: The Government offers a three-tiered retirement system including a retirement plan based on number of years worked, social security after reaching an eligible age, and a Thrift Savings Plan with Government matching.
- Training: The Government offers formal classroom training as well as online courses through the Warfighter Acquisition University (WarU). Additionally, the Government offers a variety of courses that help with your daily work environment ranging from leadership and change management to learning to use different computer software.
- Travel: Opportunities exist both foreign and domestic.
Conditions of Employment:
- Obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance.
- Position may be subject to random drug testing.
- Position may require the signing of a Financial Disclosure Statement prior to appointment and annually thereafter.
- Mobility agreement is required. You may be required to relocate during, or after, completion of your training. However, up to this point, all Program Managers have been retained at Eglin AFB.
- May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties.
- Successful completion of all training and regulatory requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO QUALIFY AS AN INTERN:
Applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Recent graduate (within two years of completing degree or within six years if a Veteran)
- Must have earned a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree from an accredited college/university.
- Must have a 2.95 or higher cumulative GPA for highest degree achieved.
