Entry Level MWD Field Engineer

Entry Level MWD Field Engineer

Start Your Engineering Career in the Field

Ready to take your engineering degree out of the classroom and into the real world?

As an Entry-Level MWD Field Engineer with Gordon Technologies, you'll gain hands-on experience in the energy industry while working directly at drilling sites and learning from experienced field professionals.

You don't need prior MWD experience. We'll provide comprehensive classroom training at the Gordon facility, followed by hands-on rig-site training under the guidance of an experienced Lead MWD Field Engineer.

This is an opportunity to build valuable technical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills while working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are exactly alike.

Compensation

$110,000–$120,000 per year, based on 67% utilization (days worked per year).

What You'll Do

As an MWD Field Engineer, you'll help ensure our customers' wells are drilled according to their engineering plans. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operate and manage MWD survey equipment at the well site.
  • Collect, monitor, and verify the quality of drilling data.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot MWD equipment.
  • Prepare accurate field and drilling reports.
  • Communicate with drilling crews, customers, and other personnel on location.
  • Monitor drilling progress and provide information to support the customer's operation.
  • Represent Gordon Technologies professionally at the well site.
  • Work as part of a team to safely and efficiently complete drilling operations.
  • Follow all company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements.

What Makes This Role Different?

Hands-On Experience: Apply what you learned in college to real-world engineering challenges.

Learn From Experts: Start with classroom training and develop your skills alongside experienced MWD professionals in the field.

No MWD Experience Required: We provide the training you need to become successful in the role.

Career Growth: Develop a strong foundation in engineering, technology, data analysis, equipment, and field operations.

Variety Every Day: Travel to different drilling locations and work in an environment that requires adaptability, independence, and problem-solving.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is curious, dependable, adaptable, and ready to learn. You don't have to know everything on day one—we're looking for someone with the mindset and skills to become a successful Field Engineer.

You should have:

  • A strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Good computer skills and the ability to learn new technology.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A team-oriented attitude.
  • The ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • The legal right to be permanently employed in the United States.
  • A commitment to working safely and following established procedures.

The Field Lifestyle

This is a field-based career, not a traditional 9-to-5 office job. Field Engineers travel to drilling rigs throughout the district and may spend extended periods away from home.

The schedule can be demanding and may include 24/7 on-call availability, irregular hours, extended shifts, and out-of-town assignments. The right candidate will enjoy a hands-on environment, embrace new challenges, and be comfortable adapting to changing conditions.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Geology, Geoscience, or a related field is preferred.

Ready to Launch Your Career?

If you're a recent graduate looking for more than a desk job and want to build real technical skills, work alongside experienced professionals, travel, and take on meaningful responsibility from the start, an MWD Field Engineer career with Gordon Technologies could be the opportunity you're looking for.

No MWD experience required. We provide the training—you bring the drive to learn and succeed.
