The Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division is seeking mathematics, statistics, data science, operations research, computer science, physics, engineering, and related majors for potential student internship and entry-level civilian opportunities.

Our analysts, scientists, and engineers use models, simulations, algorithms, and real-world test data to evaluate Navy systems and help technical leaders understand how those systems may perform. Work may support radar, missiles, hypersonics, combat systems, autonomous systems, threat analysis, mission engineering, test and evaluation, or weapon effectiveness.

Potential responsibilities may include:

  • Developing and using mathematical models and simulations
  • Analyzing laboratory, field, radar, sensor, or flight-test data
  • Developing algorithms and analytical software
  • Performing statistical analysis and uncertainty assessments
  • Supporting mission, campaign, and system-performance analysis
  • Evaluating weapon effectiveness or threat-system performance
  • Supporting artificial intelligence and machine-learning applications
  • Creating data visualizations, dashboards, and technical products
  • Verifying and validating models and analytical methods
  • Presenting findings and recommendations to technical teams and decision-makers

  • Operations Research
  • Computer Science
  • Physics
  • Systems Engineering
  • Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Other quantitative technical disciplines

Helpful experience may include MATLAB, Python, R, C/C++, SQL, statistical modeling, machine learning, numerical methods, optimization, visualization, simulation, signal processing, or analyzing large technical datasets.

Basic eligibility:

  • Current student or recent graduate in a quantitative or STEM degree program
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience interpreting data and clearly communicating results
  • Programming experience appropriate to the area of work
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the position
