Find Your Beat at the News Tribune: Reporters and Editor Wanted

The News Tribune in Jefferson City, MO is looking for energetic and motivated reporters and multimedia journalists and editors to help tell the stories that matter to our communities.

We currently have opportunities across a variety of beats, including local government, education, business, community news, features, and breaking news. If you have a preferred beat or a particular area of interest, please let us know. With multiple newsroom openings, we may be able to tailor the position to your experience, interests, and strengths.

The ideal candidate will have strong writing and interviewing skills, sound news judgment, and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines. Experience with photography, video, social media, or other forms of digital storytelling is preferred. We are looking for someone who is curious, dependable, community-minded, and passionate about local journalism.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reporting and writing accurate, engaging news and feature stories
  • Covering assignments within one or more available beats
  • Developing original story ideas and cultivating community sources
  • Producing content for print, online, and social media platforms
  • Taking photographs and creating multimedia content as needed
  • Responding to breaking news and meeting newsroom deadlines
  • Working closely with editors and other newsroom staff to provide meaningful local coverage

Some evening and weekend assignments will be required.

A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance are required. These positions involve travel throughout the coverage area and attendance at meetings, events, and breaking-news assignments in varying weather conditions.
