Position Summary
Humane Pennsylvania is seeking a creative, organized, and mission-driven Marketing Specialist/Coordinator to support the organization’s marketing and communications efforts. This position will play an important role in promoting Humane Pennsylvania’s programs, services, fundraising initiatives, and special events while helping strengthen awareness and engagement with our mission.
The ideal candidate is an excellent writer and communicator who can adapt messaging for a variety of audiences and platforms, enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, and is comfortable balancing creative projects with detailed administrative and digital responsibilities.
Essential Responsibilities
Special Events Marketing
- Develop and coordinate marketing materials and promotional campaigns for Humane Pennsylvania special events, fundraisers, and community programs.
- Create event-related content for social media, email, websites, print materials, and other communications channels.
- Coordinate timelines and marketing deliverables to ensure events are promoted effectively and consistently.
- Work with internal teams and external partners to gather information, images, and other materials needed for event promotion.
- Help track and evaluate the effectiveness of event marketing efforts.
Direct Mail
- Assist with the development, production, and distribution of direct-mail campaigns, including fundraising appeals, newsletters, invitations, and other organizational communications.
- Coordinate copy, images, mailing lists, proofs, and production timelines.
- Assist with maintaining accurate donor and mailing information in collaboration with appropriate staff.
- Support campaign tracking and reporting.
Website Maintenance
- Maintain and update website content, including event information, program pages, news, images, and other digital content.
- Ensure website information is accurate, timely, engaging, and consistent with Humane Pennsylvania’s brand and voice.
- Assist with basic website troubleshooting and identify opportunities to improve content and user experience.
- Monitor links, forms, event information, and other time-sensitive website elements.
Social Media
- Develop, write, schedule, and publish engaging social media content across relevant platforms.
- Create content that promotes adoptable animals, programs, services, events, fundraising campaigns, organizational news, and community initiatives.
- Develop platform-appropriate messaging and visuals for different audiences.
- Monitor engagement and assist with reporting on social media performance.
- Help maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity across social channels.
Media Relations
- Assist with media outreach and day-to-day media relations activities.
- Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, pitches, and other media materials.
- Respond to or coordinate responses to media inquiries as appropriate.
- Help identify opportunities for positive media coverage of Humane Pennsylvania’s programs, animals, events, and mission.
- Maintain media contacts and track media coverage.
Electronic Communications
- Develop and distribute email communications, including newsletters, event announcements, fundraising appeals, and organizational updates.
- Create and manage email campaigns.
- Assist with audience segmentation, scheduling, testing, and performance tracking.
- Ensure electronic communications are visually appealing, accurate, accessible, and consistent with organizational branding.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to write effectively for different audiences, purposes, and mediums, including web, email, social media, print, and media communications.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Working knowledge of Constant Contact and WordPress.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign.
- Proficiency with Canva.
- Familiarity with or ability to learn GoFundMePro’s online fundraising platform.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms and digital communications.
- Basic knowledge of website content management systems and web best practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff across departments.
- Ability to represent Humane Pennsylvania professionally and positively in communications with donors, members of the public, media, vendors, and community partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Previous experience in nonprofit marketing, communications, fundraising, public relations, or a related field is helpful.
- Experience promoting fundraising campaigns and special events.
- Experience with email marketing analytics, social media analytics, and digital campaign reporting.
- Familiarity with animal welfare, nonprofit organizations, or mission-driven communications is a plus.

Physical & Work Environment
This position involves regular computer and office work, as well as occasional participation in Humane Pennsylvania events and activities. The position may require occasional evening or weekend work associated with special events, campaigns, or organizational activities.
