SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

 

JOB TITLE: Intern - Supply Chain Procurement

DEPARTMENT: Topeka General Office

LOCATION: Topeka, KS

PAY RANGE: $19.00 - $23.00 / Hour

 

Internship Position for Summer 2027

 

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

As an intern, you'll have real responsibilities, and you'll work on productive assignments with actual business interactions. We provide a number of intern events throughout the summer to burn some extra energy and provide valuable learning experiences, including volunteer events, power plant tours, lunch and learns, and more.

 

Intern Description:

As a Supply Chain summer intern, you will be asked to complete a variety of tasks and may work on several projects simultaneously with our Supply Chain Procurement team. The position provides a variety of ways to engage in Supply Chain activities, including sourcing and supplier management, contract review and negotiation support, market research, and participation in procurement processes across multiple categories. Participants will have opportunities to interact with employees at all levels of our organization and many cross-functional teams. 

 

Job tasks include but not limited to:

Projects will be focused around the following items but not limited to:

  • Procurement business process mapping and analysis
    • Determine and measure key performance indicators
    • Identify opportunities for improvement
  • Data analysis and visualization to support procurement decision-making
  • Market research and supplier analysis to support sourcing initiatives
  • Participation in sourcing events and bid evaluations 
  • Participation in supplier relationship activities
  • Communication of findings and recommended solutions to stakeholders and leadership
  • Assist with contract review, procurement strategy initiatives, and category management projects across a variety of spend categories

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Third or fourth year student actively pursuing a degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or related field. Preferred GPA is 3.0 or greater. 

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

The successful candidate must possess strong analytical, problem solving, leadership, communication, and influencing skills. Must possess a career interest in procurement/ materials management/supply chain risk management, as well as have a desire to work as a team to achieve common goals in a dynamic corporate environment. 

 

Working Conditions:

Normal Office conditions. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
