Intern Position for Full Time Summer 2027
Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Other hours as required). This role will be a combination of remote and in-office work, with the ability to attend meetings on-site as appropriate.

Intern Description:
This internship provides hands-on experience in commodity supply, transportation logistics, and fuel operations within the utility industry. The Fuels Intern will support the Fuels team in monitoring market conditions, conducting research, and assisting with purchasing, scheduling, and administrative activities across various commodity areas. This is a developmental role designed to expose the intern to the fundamentals of fuel procurement, logistics, and regulatory compliance while building foundational skills in data analysis and business operations.
Commodity Areas:
• Diesel Fuel
• Coal Combustion Products (CCPs)
• Railroad and Railcar Logistics
• Coal
• Fuel Additives (Lime, Limestone, Ammonia, Powder Activated Carbon, Urea, etc.)
• Back Office Functions (including Aligne, Daily Fuels, regulatory requests, and internal/external reporting)
• Emissions
Job tasks include but not limited to:
• Assist in monitoring and researching market conditions through reports from energy consultants, vendors, subscription services, utilities, and government agencies.
• Support the development of fuel, additives, and transportation strategies by gathering and organizing data related to political, environmental, regulatory, technological, economic, and social conditions.
• Help prepare analyses and documentation for contract negotiations and solicitations related to coal, fuel oil, railcar maintenance, fuel additives, emissions allowances, CCPs, and transportation.
• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets for railcar leasing, railcar maintenance, and fuel operations expenses.
• Maintain, update, and create spreadsheets and databases supporting department activities.
• Support the preparation of reports, regulatory responses, and communications, including data requests and regulatory testimony drafts as assigned.
• Participate in team meetings and cross-functional projects to gain exposure to multiple commodity areas.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the Fuels team.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Supply Chain, Economics, or a related discipline. Junior or Senior standing preferred; graduate students also welcome. No prior professional experience required; coursework or projects involving data analysis, procurement, logistics, or energy is a plus.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and willingness to learn other data analytic tools.
• Ability to work with datasets, perform basic data cleansing, and create visualizations.
• Interest in or exposure to Microsoft Power BI, SQL, SharePoint, Power Automate, or Power Apps is a plus.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to learn quickly, take initiative, and ask questions.
• Creative problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate across departments.
• Demonstrates high integrity, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
