About TBD Investors

TBD Investors is an investment partnership that backs exceptional entrepreneurs, searchers, and operators building enduring companies. We invest our own capital and work closely with founders and CEOs across a growing portfolio, with a particular focus on healthcare, business services, and other essential service industries.

As we expand our activities across Europe, we are looking for talented students who can bring local knowledge, language skills, and a strong understanding of European markets to our portfolio companies.

Our portfolio companies are often founder-led or searcher-led businesses where interns can have a real impact. This is not a “sit in the corner and observe” internship. We are looking for people who want to help build companies.

About the Role

We are seeking highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students, particularly those studying or based in Europe, to support strategic and operational projects across TBD Investors’ portfolio companies.

The intern will work closely with a portfolio company’s Chief of Staff, supporting high-priority initiatives for the CEO and senior leadership team. The position provides direct exposure to the strategic, analytical, and operational challenges involved in building and expanding a growing company.

The role combines elements of management consulting, corporate strategy, business operations, and executive support. Interns will work on real business questions rather than hypothetical case studies.

Many projects will have a European focus, including evaluating new countries and regions, researching fragmented industries, comparing competitors across markets, assessing regulatory and commercial differences, and helping companies develop market-entry and expansion strategies.

Support projects sponsored by the CEO and senior leadership team

Research European markets, customers, competitors, and industry trends

Support country prioritization, market-sizing, and market-entry analysis

Compare business models and operating practices across European markets

Analyze operating performance, unit economics, and key business metrics

Evaluate new locations, services, products, and customer segments

Build financial and operational models

Develop dashboards and reporting tools for company leadership

Identify opportunities to improve growth, efficiency, and customer experience

Prepare presentations, analyses, and recommendations for executives

Coordinate cross-functional projects and track important initiatives

Support preparation for management, board, and investor meetings

Example Projects

Interns may work with the Chief of Staff to help a company:

Decide which European countries or cities to enter next

Size an industry across several European markets

Build a competitor map for a fragmented sector

Evaluate the attractiveness of a new geographic market

Research local regulations, customer behavior, and operating requirements

Identify potential acquisition targets or commercial partners

Understand why one location or business unit outperforms another

Analyze customer-acquisition costs and marketing performance

Evaluate a new product or service

Improve recruiting, onboarding, or employee retention

Develop a management dashboard

Prepare materials for a board meeting

Track progress against company-wide goals

Identify and solve an operational bottleneck

Turn a CEO’s idea into a structured and actionable project plan

Qualifications

Current undergraduate or graduate student with a strong academic record

Based in Europe or possessing meaningful academic, professional, or personal familiarity with European markets

Interest in consulting, strategy, entrepreneurship, private equity, general management, or business operations

Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills

Ability to bring structure to ambiguous business questions

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets and PowerPoint or Google Slides

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Comfort working in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment

Intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and strong attention to detail

High level of professionalism and discretion when working with sensitive information

Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in another European language is strongly valued, particularly German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, or a Nordic language.

Prior experience in consulting, finance, strategy, operations, market research, or an entrepreneurial organization is helpful but not required.

Graduate students, including MBA and other relevant master’s degree candidates, may be given greater ownership of individual workstreams based on their experience.

What You Will Gain

Direct experience working with a Chief of Staff and senior executives

Exposure to European investment, market-entry, and growth strategies

Experience solving real strategic and operational problems

Opportunities to take ownership of meaningful projects

Exposure to multiple companies, countries, industries, and business models

Practical training in structured problem-solving and executive communication

Insight into private equity, entrepreneurship through acquisition, and company building

A better understanding of the Chief of Staff role as a potential career path

This is a paid internship. Start dates and schedules are flexible, with opportunities available during the academic year and summer.

The internship may be structured as:
