The Veterans' Service Office, within the Department of Social Services, invites applications for the position of Veterans' Services Representative I. Incumbents interview, advise and assist veterans and their dependents in making entitlement determinations as well as securing rights and benefits under federal, state or local legislation. 

Veterans' Services Representatives may be required to work shifts as assigned, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

Veterans' Services Representative I applicants must qualify under one (1) of the options listed below:

OPTION 1
 

Education: Completion of sixty (60) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.

 

OPTION 2
 

Experience: Four (4) years of full-time, paid work experience providing eligibility services to clients of federal, state, or local programs including claim preparation and appeal assistance as well as research and analysis of applicable laws, policies, and programs.

 

In addition to the options listed above, the following may be required:

License: Possession of a valid driver's license may be required.

Note: As a condition of employment, and within the twelve (12) month probationary period, the incumbent shall obtain and maintain United States Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA) accreditation through the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA).

As a condition of employment, candidates are required to undergo and pass a background investigation. These investigations include employment/credit histories, verification of education, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified.
