Regional Sales Manager-North America (remote) - Pettibone

Pettibone seeks an accomplished Regional Sales Manager to join their rail equipment sales team. This is a remote position covering North America (United States, Canada, and Mexico). Candidates may live anywhere in the U.S., although a central location with convenient access to a major airport—such as Chicago, Illinois—is preferred due to the travel needs of the role.

This is a hands-on sales role for someone who enjoys finding new business, getting in front of customers, understanding how equipment is used, and turning those conversations into long-term relationships and sales.

You’ll represent Pettibone rail equipment with railroad customers, contractors, leasing companies, dealers, and other end users—managing opportunities from the first introduction through proposal, negotiation, delivery, and follow-up. If you know rail, understand equipment, and would rather be talking with customers than sitting behind a desk all week, this is for you.

WHAT WE OFFER.

  • Base salary of approximately $120,000.
  • PLUS 1% commission on eligible machine and attachment sales.
  • PLUS an annual bonus opportunity of 10%–20% of base salary based on sales performance.
  • Medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage (employee and family plans available).
  • Health Savings Account and Flex Spending Account.
  • Company paid short-term and long-term disability insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with up to 4% company match.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Paid time off (vacation, sick, holidays, and volunteer time—just to name a few).
  • Full-time remote position generally working Monday – Friday 8am – 4:30pm.

WHAT YOUR DAYS LOOK LIKE.

  • Grow Sales. Increase business with new and existing rail customers, contractors, leasing companies, dealers, and end users across your territory.
  • Prospect for New Business. Identify opportunities, visit customers, and build relationships with key decision-makers.
  • Recommend the Right Equipment. Understand customer applications and match Pettibone products to their operational needs.
  • Manage the Full Sales Cycle. Lead presentations, demonstrations, proposals, negotiations, and closing from start to finish.
  • Manage Accounts and Forecasts. Keep CRM activity, account plans, opportunities, and sales forecasts current and organized.
  • Share Intelligence. Communicate customer needs, competitive activity, pricing pressure, product feedback, and market opportunities.
  • Partner Across Pettibone. Work with Engineering, Service, Parts, Marketing, and Sales to support customers and resolve issues.
  • Support Equipment Delivery and Training. Assist with commissioning, introductory customer training, demonstrations, and trade shows.
  • Travel the Territory. Spend time in the field meeting customers, developing business, and strengthening relationships.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR.

  • 5+ years of direct capital-equipment sales experience, preferably selling into the rail industry and maintenance-of-way market.
  • Experience prospecting for new business and successfully moving opportunities from lead to close.
  • Knowledge of rail customers, contractors, leasing companies, bidding practices, purchasing channels, or equipment applications.
  • The ability to understand and confidently discuss mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
  • Strong relationship-building, negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of CRM tools (we use SalesForce) to manage accounts, opportunities, and forecasts.
  • The independence and organization to manage a large territory while staying connected with the Pettibone team.
  • A willingness to travel frequently in North America (up to approx. 75%), including overnight travel.
