The Center for Youth and Family Advocacy (CYFA) is a youth development nonprofit focused on leadership and civic engagement by advancing opportunities, accelerating growth, and amplifying contribution. CYFA provides youth and families with a community-based continuum of support from kindergarten through career, helping young people develop the knowledge, relationships, skills, and opportunities needed to navigate systems, make informed decisions, and contribute as leaders in their communities.
Through education, restorative practices, advocacy, and direct services, CYFA works to expand opportunity, reduce barriers, and strengthen the relationships and connections that support positive youth development.
Position Summary
The Reentry Coordinator provides individualized, community-based support to youth and young adults transitioning from detention back into the community through CYFA’s The Next Chapter program.
The Reentry Coordinator works alongside participants to put their reentry plans into action, helping them navigate the transition to community life and pursue meaningful education, employment, training, and career opportunities. The position combines relationship-based support, coaching, service navigation, advocacy, and community partnership development.
The Reentry Coordinator works independently and exercises professional judgment in responding to participant needs, identifying appropriate resources and opportunities, and adapting support as circumstances change. The position maintains strong relationships with participants while collaborating with families, school systems, justice-system partners, employers, workforce providers, and community organizations to create meaningful pathways forward.
Key Responsibilities
Reentry & Participant Support
Provide consistent, relationship-based support to youth and young adults transitioning from detention to the community.
Review and implement individualized reentry plans developed with participants prior to release, using them as working documents to guide post-release support.
Exercise independent professional judgment in identifying participant needs, responding to emerging challenges, and determining appropriate supports and next steps.
Provide coaching, problem-solving, advocacy, and encouragement as participants navigate reentry and work toward their goals.
Maintain regular contact with participants and monitor progress toward education, employment, career, and other reentry goals.
Collaborate with participants to adapt plans and strategies as their circumstances and goals evolve.
Education, Workforce & Career Development
Help participants identify and pursue employment, internships, apprenticeships, certifications, occupational training, postsecondary education, and other career opportunities.
Provide practical coaching related to job search, applications, interviewing, workplace readiness, and professional development.
Build and maintain relationships with employers, workforce providers, educational institutions, training programs, and other partners that expand opportunities for participants.
Support participants in addressing practical barriers that may interfere with education, training, or employment.
Community & Systems Coordination
Connect participants to appropriate community resources and services, including housing, transportation, identification, behavioral health, education, and other supports.
Develop and maintain relationships with schools, justice-system partners, service providers, employers, and community organizations.
Coordinate services and communication among partners to promote continuity and reduce gaps in support.
Engage families and other supportive adults, when appropriate, to strengthen participant stability and success.
Documentation & Program Support
Maintain timely and accurate participant records, case notes, service documentation, and outcome data.
Track participant engagement and progress and contribute to program evaluation and continuous improvement.
Participate in staff meetings, supervision, training, community engagement, and program activities.
Support the continued development of CYFA’s reentry and workforce programming.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of workforce development, employment, education, and community-based services.
Understanding of the challenges and barriers justice-involved youth and young adults may experience during reentry.
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships across education, workforce, justice, and community systems.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Commitment to youth voice, participant agency, equity, and trauma-informed, relationship-based practice.
Ability to work independently while seeking supervision and consultation when needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social work, criminal justice, human services, workforce development, education, psychology, or a related field.
At least two (2) years of experience working with youth or young adults in community-based services, workforce development, juvenile justice, reentry, education, or a related setting.
Experience providing case management, coaching, service navigation, workforce development, employment readiness, or career development support.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with justice-involved youth or young adults.
Experience in reentry, diversion, restorative practices, violence prevention, workforce development, or related programs.
Experience working with youth transitioning from detention or other justice-system settings.
Familiarity with school systems, workforce systems, youth-serving organizations, and community resources.
Established relationships with employers, workforce providers, educational institutions, or community-based organizations.
Bilingual or multilingual abilities, particularly Spanish, strongly preferred.
Necessary Special Requirements
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings as needed to meet participant and program needs.
Ability and willingness to travel to meet participants, families, employers, schools, service providers, and community partners.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Successful completion of required criminal background and other applicable screening processes.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with CYFA policies and applicable laws and regulations.
