WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

As a Research Science Officer (Associate Director for Science), you will:

  • Evaluate epidemiologic and other scientific research or the identification of causes or sources of injuries, diseases or disease outbreaks.
  • Advise on the operational aspects of studies, including the collection and analysis of data, coverage and techniques of sampling used, and use of controls, etc.
  • Review and clear for the CIO, research protocols for consideration by the CDC Institutional Review Board to ensure compliance and adherence to applicable policies and regulations.
  • Prepare or review the preparation of all reports, articles or monographs describing findings from studies or projects conducted as part of the research and services programs.

 

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Basic Qualifications: (You must submit transcripts to support the education requirement below)

Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

AND

Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year of specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:

  • Applying epidemiological principles and procedures to investigate, review, analyze, and determine the causes of scientific issues.
  • Directing and advising on the development of public health research systems.
  • Reviewing documents and other materials for accuracy, scientific merit, and adherence to agency policy.
