Assistant Manager

Assistant Manager — Urban Doghouse, Aubrey TX

Full-time, hourly · $16.50 – $19.50/hour · On-site in Aubrey, TX · Reports to the General Manager

About Us

Urban Doghouse - Aubrey is a locally owned dog daycare, boarding, and grooming facility where intelligent care meets elevated service. Our clients aren't dropping off a pet — they're trusting us with a member of the family. Our daycare runs on structured group play, not an overcrowded free-for-all: purpose-driven playgroups, continuous supervision by trained handlers, and real-time operational awareness.

We run on our own care-tracking platform, which logs care routines, medications, and services and helps us optimize staffing and safety — so there's less guesswork on your shift. We're a hands-on crew, and everyone works the floor, management included.

The Role

The Assistant Manager supervises daily operations and staff, ensures the safety of every canine guest, and runs the building when the General Manager is out. This is a role with room to grow — strong Assistant Managers here move into the General Manager seat.

Key Responsibilities

  • Employee Management: Train and onboard new hires, schedule and supervise the care team, coach in the moment, and cover shifts when needed.
  • Dog Safety & Wellness: Run structured playgroups, sorting dogs by size, temperament, and energy. Monitor boarding logs, medications, feeding, and incident reports.
  • Facility Oversight: Uphold cleaning and sanitation standards, manage inventory, and order supplies.
  • Operational Excellence: Manage reservations and care records in our digital care system, track labor hours, and keep the operation on budget.
  • Client Relations: Greet pet parents, give facility tours, and resolve concerns with professionalism and follow-through.
  • Revenue Growth: Promote daycare packages, grooming add-ons, and boarding specials, and help create social media content.
  • Grooming Support: Bathe, brush, and trim nails as needed, keep grooming areas clean and stocked, and hold the team to safe grooming handling.

Ideal Candidate Traits

  • Management Experience: 1+ years of management experience — pet care or hospitality strongly preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Leadership and Communication: Inspire and guide staff through clear communication, and lead by example.
  • Financial Literacy: Budgeting experience and comfort managing labor costs and supply spend.
  • Composure Under Pressure: Excellent customer service and a level head when a shift goes sideways.
  • Passion for Animal Care: Comfortable with dogs of every size and temperament, with a sharp eye for safety.
  • Comfort with Technology: Basic computer skills for scheduling, record keeping, and reporting — you work in a system rather than around it.
  • Brand Ownership: A genuine commitment to protecting and growing Urban Doghouse - Aubrey.
  • Reliability and Flexibility: Show up on time and available weekends and holidays as needed. You can lift 50 lbs, stay on your feet, and work outdoors in Texas weather.

Nice to have: prior daycare, boarding, or veterinary experience; Pet CPR and First Aid certification.
