Production Planning Intern

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Supply Chain / Production Scheduling Intern will support the Materials and Production Scheduling team by assisting with day-to-day scheduling, data entry, and reporting activities. This role provides hands-on exposure to production scheduling, purchasing, inventory control, and supply chain operations in an automotive manufacturing environment, working under the guidance and supervision of experienced Supply Chain team members.

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the Production Scheduling team with entering and updating work orders in the MRP/ERP system under supervision.
  • Help maintain and organize scheduling data, including due dates, routing information, and work center assignments.
  • Support daily production meetings by compiling status reports, open order lists, and priority task summaries.
  • Assist in tracking material availability and flagging potential shortages to the Production Scheduler.
  • Help gather and organize data for planning parameters such as lot sizes, lead times, and re-order points.
  • Support inventory accuracy efforts, including assisting with cycle counts and physical inventory.
  • Assist with pulling and organizing reports related to on-time delivery, backlog, and open purchase orders.
  • Shadow the Production Scheduler and Buyer/Planner team to learn scheduling sequencing, tooling changeovers, and capacity considerations.
  • Help maintain accurate records in supplier portals and customer EDI systems under guidance.
  • Support the Toolroom and Quality teams with basic coordination tasks related to tooling repairs and hold/corrective-action documentation.
  • Assist with filing, data entry, and other administrative tasks that support the Supply Chain department.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to gain exposure to purchasing, logistics, and inventory control functions.
  • Complete assigned projects related to process improvement or data analysis as directed by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

  • Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Sophomore standing or above preferred; no prior professional experience required.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office required; exposure to ERP/MRP systems a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Eagerness to learn, ask questions, and take initiative in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Able to follow instructions and work under regular supervision and guidance.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively with team members across departments.
  • Available to work part-time during the academic semester and/or full-time during summer/school breaks, per program requirements.
