Book Publishing / Literary Agency Intern - Fall 2026
The Friedrich Agency is looking for a paid intern (must be based in the U.S., preferably NYC)! Our ideal candidate is an avid reader with a strong interest in pursuing a career in book publishing; someone who is able to manage their time; someone who is both comfortable asking questions when they have concerns, but also someone who will take the time to troubleshoot first.
This internship will mainly be a reader position with flexible hours. You can decide your hours + when to read what we send you, as long as you respond in a timely manner. The intern will be responsible for reading and evaluating manuscripts at any stage of the process (i.e. queries, requested manuscripts, client manuscripts), drafting feedback and pass letters, as well as other miscellaneous projects as they come up.
Interns are welcome to join our twice weekly agency zooms, where they'll get an inside look on what goes on in the literary agenting, and bigger publishing, world. We're looking for someone who can stay with us for a minimum of 3 months, with potential to extend.
Compensation:
- $40 per every 100 pages read
- $20/hour for miscellaneous non-reading projects as they come up.
The interview process will include evaluating and writing a report on a manuscript we send you and a phone interview.
