Company: Pretty Good AI — we build voice AI agents for healthcare practices to take calls 24/7, so patients can access information, book appointments, request medication refills, process faxes, and do many other things, whenever they need it. We’ve taken millions of patient calls just a few months after launch. Our customers see us as the only indispensable technology vendor. Customers love us; we're a 5-star rated voice AI solution for healthcare practices. Founders have had multiple exits.
Role (contractor): Build real production features in our voice AI platform, working directly with the founders and some of the best AI engineers in the valley, not buried in a big team. You'll work with production code from week one and learn everything by doing. You will learn more in the first month than in your entire last year.
What you'll do
- Build and improve AI agents that handle patient calls and clinic workflows
- Build API integrations and validation tools for healthcare systems
- Develop features using Python & TypeScript
- Use AI-assisted development tools daily (Cursor, Claude Code) as core workflow
- Ship production code in a fast iteration multi-agent environment
- Work with real customers on real-world problems
What we're looking for
- You communicate exceptionally well. This is not a soft skill here; it's a hard requirement. In your submission and in interviews, we will first look for clear evidence of strong communication.
- You are the hardest worker in your class
- Extreme curiosity and a fast learner

- Experience in building a customer-facing product using AI
- Self-starter mentality: you take ownership of the projects and work things out yourself; you don't wait to be told what to do
- Comfortable asking questions; working with ambiguity and moving fast
- Nice to have: prior experience in technical roles
Schedule & compensation
- Work schedule:
- Strong preference to candidates in the SF Bay Area who can work in person 2-3 times a week.
- Fully remote is an option, but you will lose the opportunity to grow by sitting next to senior team members.
- 40+ hours/week, $25/hour
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship.
The hourly rate is not why you want to take this job. What you get instead is access, direct, daily, unfiltered access, to founders and senior engineers, on production systems, with real customers, at a speed no classroom or big-company internship can match.
What success looks like
- Production code in our platform within your first week
- You'll learn healthcare systems, voice AI architecture, and startup engineering practices
- You'll have real patients depending on the code you wrote
- Many from past cohorts have transitioned into full-time AI engineering roles
