Calm and Crafty Corner Event Coordinator

Position Summary

The Calm and Crafty Corner Intern supports the University Center by helping execute pre-planned fall programming, evaluating how those events perform, and contributing to the development of spring semester curriculum and event planning. This position is designed as a learning-focused role, offering hands-on experience in event production, program assessment, and student engagement. The intern will help ensure the Calm and Crafty Corner remains a welcoming, well-run space that meets student interest and evolves based on what works.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Execute pre-planned fall events, including setup, materials preparation, facilitation, and teardown
  • Prepare, organize, and track craft supplies and inventory before and after each event
  • Welcome students into the space, assist with projects, and maintain a calm, inviting atmosphere
  • Record attendance, participation levels, and materials usage for each event
  • Gather student feedback through informal conversation, sign-ins, and short surveys
  • Analyze which activities, formats, days, and time slots generate the strongest engagement — and which do not
  • Write brief post-event recaps summarizing outcomes, challenges, and recommendations for staff
  • Contribute to spring semester curriculum by proposing craft activities, skill levels, and program sequencing
  • Draft run of show documents for spring events, including timelines, staffing needs, supply lists, and setup requirements
  • Help estimate supply quantities and costs for proposed spring activities
  • Collaborate with University Center staff and other program areas to cross-promote and coordinate events
  • Maintain professionalism and represent the Calm and Crafty Corner positively

Required Qualifications

  • Interest in crafts, arts, wellness programming, or event planning
  • Comfortable engaging with students and creating a welcoming environment
  • Reliable, organized, and able to manage time effectively
  • Basic comfort with tracking information in spreadsheets or online forms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow guidelines
  • Willingness to learn and accept feedback
  • Availability during scheduled event times, which may include evenings or weekends

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading or assisting with craft workshops, classes, or campus events
  • Familiarity with a range of craft mediums (fiber arts, painting, paper crafts, jewelry, etc.)
  • Experience with survey or feedback tools such as Google Forms or Qualtrics
  • Interest in student engagement, wellness programming, or community building
