Hours: approximately 15 hours a week between 7am - 3pm Monday - Thursday; 7am - noon on Fridays.

Summary:     

The Communications Intern will need to be organized, compassionate, and an effective professional who values trust and ethics in the marketplace. As the communications Intern, you will collaborate with team members to engage and retain the support of the Accredited Business community. The Communications Intern will also be working across BBB’s social media channels to grow followers as well as create and maintain relationships to convert them into leads, customers and active fans and promotors of the BBB.

Responsibilities:

Social Media

·        Assist Director of Operations to maintain an effective strategy for social media outreach.

·        Monitor and post on blogs, forums, and social networks.

·        Posts updates, news and announcements in a timely manner using appropriate content.

·        Perform research to find articles, stories, resources or other content that is relevant to our audiences and post it to our social media accounts in a manner that invites conversation and interaction.

·        Updates accounts with current and relevant photos, videos or other content related to BBB Activities and events

·        Review and track data on the performance of social media platforms and adjusts plans or strategies to optimize reach.

Media Relations

·        Assist in developing and contributing to public and media relations

·        Communicate and build relationships with current or prospective news stations through targeted media outreach

·        Developing, writing and distributing press releases, newsletters and other media materials

·        Tracking and organizing all media placements

Operations

·        Assist in planning and promoting events

·        Assist team with public telephone lines

·        Undertake other related duties as required

Retention

·        Assist with requests from Accredited Businesses (AB)

·        Mailing monthly invoices

·        Mail New AB Welcome Kits

·        New AB Calls

§ Follow up calls at 2 weeks and 6 months

§ Email and call AB to ensure they received Welcome Kits and are taking advantage of the benefits available to them.

o  Dynamic Seal

o  Branding Materials

o  Logo for offline use

o  Promoting Customer Review app

o  Explaining Request a Quote

o  Logging into BBB Account (claiming reviews)

o  Reviewing report to ensure accuracy (TOBs especially)

o  Answering any questions they may have

Required Skills & Competencies:

·        Strong knowledge and understanding of mainstream social media platforms.

·        Utilizes social media to engage with and connect local community, business owners, and consumers.

·        Solid writing skills with a passion for writing both short- and long-copy.

·        Excellent verbal communication skills

·        Performs well in environment that values creativity, flexibility, and variety

Required Skills & Competencies (continued):

·        Initiative and ability to follow through on projects and meet deadlines

·        Ability to adopt the style, tone, and voice of our organizations various types of content.

·        Strong attention to detail and accuracy

·        Intermediate computer and MS Office skills

·        Positive attitude
