Location: Salem, Massachusetts
Schedule: Part-time, 1–3 weekdays per week
Compensation: $18–$25 per hour, based on experience
Position Summary
iHisto is seeking approximately three part-time Lab Assistants/Technicians to support our daily histology workflow, primarily through FFPE paraffin embedding and microtome sectioning.
This position is well suited for students with relevant laboratory training, recent graduates, or candidates with hands-on histology experience who are interested in consistent part-time work and practical experience in a professional laboratory environment.
Previous histology experience is preferred but not required. Training may be available for candidates with strong laboratory fundamentals, attention to detail, and an interest in learning histology techniques.
Immediate openings are available, and applications will be reviewed as they are received.
Schedule
This is a part-time, on-site position with approximately 8–24 hours available per week.
Team members will typically work one to three consistent weekdays based on their availability and the laboratory’s staffing needs. Applicants do not need to be available Monday through Friday.
Available schedules include designated:
Morning half-day shifts
Afternoon half-day shifts
Full-day shifts
Because this position supports daily laboratory production, employees must be available for the complete scheduled half-day or full-day shift. Short or customized mid-day schedules, such as 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., generally cannot be accommodated.
Openings are available Monday through Friday, with the greatest current need on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. A consistent recurring schedule will be agreed upon during the hiring process.
Responsibilities
Perform FFPE paraffin embedding under supervision or independently, depending on experience.
Conduct microtome sectioning of paraffin blocks.
Perform water bath pickup and proper slide handling.
Accurately label slides, blocks, and related materials.
Complete basic documentation and sample tracking.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Restock routine laboratory supplies and consumables.
Follow established SOPs, safety requirements, and quality standards.
Communicate questions, concerns, or scheduling conflicts promptly.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with FFPE paraffin embedding and/or microtome sectioning.
Familiarity with basic laboratory practices, including labeling, documentation, and organization.
Strong attention to detail and good manual dexterity.
Ability to perform repetitive, detail-oriented work accurately.
Dependable attendance and punctuality.
Ability to follow written procedures and accept feedback.
Students or graduates in biology, biomedical science, biotechnology, pre-medical studies, pathology, medical laboratory science, or related programs are encouraged to apply.
Requirements
Must be able to commute reliably to Salem, Massachusetts.
Must be available for at least one consistent weekday shift.
Must be able to work a complete designated half-day or full-day shift.
Able to work approximately 8–24 hours per week.
A minimum commitment of three months is preferred.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
