Job Description

Assist DVRPC’s Operations, Communications and Engagement division. The Engagement Planning Intern will be involved in regional planning across the following areas: public engagement, Title VI and civil rights compliance, project support, safety planning, mobility planning, and municipal support and coordination. The Engagement Planning Intern will be responsible for finding  opportunities to elevate current public engagement and accessibility practices; synthesize data and resident input; and supporting outreach activities and engagement events.

The intern may also support activities with other offices, including designing stakeholder workshops or interviews, case studies, basic quantitative analysis, report writing, and presentation development. This position is well suited for individuals who are curious and adaptable, offering exposure to multiple areas of regional planning and a range of project types and outreach strategies. 

The potential project list includes:

• Assist with public engagement elements of staff projects, specifically the FY27 Supporting Communities project, Regional Vision Zero, and the Coordinated Human Services Transportation Plan 
• Assist with Public Participation Task Force (write meeting summaries and member communication) Writing and researching for Title VI, ADA, and public engagement policy projects. 

Responsibilities

The intern will assist professional staff with research, data collection, data synthesis, communications support, and engagement activities. The intern will be an integral member of interdisciplinary project teams and may participate in meetings with stakeholders, advisory committees, and partner agencies. 

Qualifications

• Interest in regional planning and transportation planning.
• Interest in engagement, community outreach, civil rights, safety planning, accessibility planning, and/or public health.
• Ability to perform in-depth research independently and synthesize findings. 
• Ability to read, interpret and relate geographic data and statistical data.
• Ability to establish effective relationships with coworkers and stakeholder groups.
• Excellent writing skills and initiative are essential.
• Proficiency in Zoom and Google Suite are required; experience in GIS is preferred but not essential.

Availability

Availability to start on Tuesday September 8th, 2026 is preferred. This is a hybrid position which  requires a commitment of up to 30 hours per week.  

Compensation

 $19 per hour for interns currently pursuing a  Bachelor’s degree. $22 per hour for candidates currently pursuing a Master’s degree. Students with Work-Study funding are encouraged to apply.  

Minimum Education and Training 

Must have completed at least ONE YEAR  of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's, or an equivalent combination of experience and training, plus substantial experience, interest, or involvement in transportation planning, public engagement, and/or civil rights work
