Founded in 1973, Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York, Inc. (KCS) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) multi-service organization supported by government agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals. KCS aims to develop and deliver a broad range of social service programs to meet the community's various needs.
Position Summary
KCS is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Communications & Outreach Coordinator to support the organization’s communications, marketing, and outreach efforts. This role will assist with content creation, social media management, event promotion, and internal/external communications across programs. The ideal candidate is organized, creative, and eager to learn, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate with different teams. This position also requires flexibility to support occasional evening and weekend events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Communications Strategy & Leadership
- Assist in creating content for social media, newsletters, and website updates
- Support consistent messaging and branding across materials
- Help draft basic communications including email campaigns and announcements
Digital and Social Media Management
- Manage and update KCS social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, KakaoTalk, etc.)
- Schedule posts and monitor engagement
- Track basic performance metrics and report insights
Newsletter and Email Communications
- Assist in preparing and distributing newsletters
- Support email campaigns using platforms like Mailchimp
- Help maintain media and contact lists
- Maintain ongoing communication with existing and potential donors
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Work with program teams to gather content and updates
- Assist in creating advocacy materials (flyers, posters, simple graphics)
- Ensure timely communication across departments
Event Support & Coverage
- Assist with promotion and on-site support for events
- Help capture photos/videos and support post-event recap content
- Availability for occasional evenings and weekends required
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Media, Marketing, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience also welcomed.
- 0–2 years of experience in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field
- Korean & English bilingual (preferred)
- Interest in nonprofit work and community engagement

Knowledge
- Cultural Sensitivity: Understanding of cultural differences and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Basic Knowledge of Communication and Marketing Field
Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in the language(s) necessary to perform the essential functions of the position (e.g., English, Korean, or both), including the ability to hear, speak, and be understood in the work environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Organized and detail-oriented

Skills
- Proficient with Google Workspace: Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Gmail, Slides
- Proficient with Canva, Mailchimp, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
- Proficient with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc)
- Proficient with website management: Wix
- Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus but not required
