Research Scientist Intern
About Haima Therapeutics
Haima Therapeutics is a pre-clinical stage biotechnology company located in Cleveland, OH. We focus on developing platelet-inspired therapies that provide treatment options for a range of conditions including hemorrhage, inflammation, thrombosis, and cancer. Our lead product is SynthoPlate, a synthetic intravenous hemostatic technology that has the potential to significantly reduce bleeding by amplifying the body's natural clotting mechanisms.
Job Description
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Intern with an interest in functional assessment of our lead drug candidate via in vitro and ex vivo assays, primarily flow cytometry, with additional support for ELISA, platelet aggregometry, ROTEM, TEG etc. The selected candidate will gain valuable exposure and hands-on experience in the research and development of the SynthoPlate technology. This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring scientist to experience the inner workings of a startup biotechnology company and participate in the development and commercialization of cutting-edge therapeutic technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and analyze flow cytometry assays as the primary readout of platelet activation and SynthoPlate function
- Support complementary in vitro/ex vivo assays, including ELISA, platelet aggregometry, and hemostatic assays such as ROTEM and TEG
- Assist with animal handling and basic surgical support in rodent bleeding models
- Collect and process biological samples (e.g., whole blood, plasma) for downstream analysis
- Assist with study documentation and regulatory records; maintain accurate laboratory notebook records and work within Haima's quality management system
- Analyze and interpret technical data, including statistical analysis and graphical representation
- Assist in managing and updating assay development and validation documents and protocols
- Participate in internal meetings and data presentations, and support general lab and organizational tasks to keep studies running smoothly
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or related fields
- Interest or hands-on experience with flow cytometry strongly preferred; some experience with biological assay development and execution a plus
- Comfort with, or willingness to be trained in, animal handling in rodent models
- Experience with Microsoft Office and basic data analysis skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A willingness to learn and contribute in a fast-paced environment
Availability & Scheduling
This is a fully in-person role based in our Cleveland, OH laboratory. There is no virtual or remote option.
Because much of the work supports scheduled animal studies, we are looking for candidates who can commit larger, contiguous blocks of time on specific days rather than short windows spread across the week. For example, roughly 5 hours on Wednesday and 6 hours on Thursday is a much better fit than 2-3 hours every weekday. Specific days and hours will be set around upcoming study calendars, and some flexibility to align with study timing is a plus.
Benefits
This is a part-time, on-site position based in our office/laboratory (no virtual option). Interns will earn $15/hr.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter via our Handshake job listing link. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Haima Therapeutics is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
