Manager Safety

Job Objective:

The Manager Safety is a first-level manager that will manage and execute on organizational safety programs to prevent injuries and work-related health conditions and comply with applicable regulatory requirements. This role will promote and work to maintain a safe and healthy work environment by collaborating with various departments to minimize workplace hazards and foster a culture of safety.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Analyze and classify risks and losses and measure financial impact upon the company.
  • Design and direct programs to reduce accidents, occupational illness, and exposure to long term health hazards.
  • Train employees and management in safety practices.
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, or occupational illnesses to determine causes and preventive measures.
  • Review plans and specifications for construction or purchase of new machinery or equipment to determine whether all safety requirements have been met.
  • Conduct safety audits, record, and rate severity level, and assign responsibility for corrective actions.
  • Coach site-specific leadership team on the expectations, tools, and implementation of the Safety Management System.
  • Tracks and monitors SMS level specific KPIs.
  • Create and continually improve SMS specific training such as Supervisor Hazard identification/Mitigation and Supervisor Safety Communication Skills, Roles, and Responsibilities.
  • Ensure the integrity of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 6-8 years relevant experience or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 1-3 years of management experience.
  • Safety training and certificates preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety disciplines, other regulatory guidelines, and common industrial safety practices.

  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Flexible attitude, adaptable to change, team player, and able to handle multiple projects at once.
  • High degree of professionalism, judgment, maturity, and resourcefulness in the absence of formalized guidelines and procedures.
