Clinical Assistant Ophthalmic Technician

Clinical Assistant / Ophthalmic Technician – Pre-Med & Future Healthcare Professionals Encouraged to Apply

Location: Bellevue, WA
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: $25.00–$28.00 per hour
Experience Required: None – Comprehensive Training Provided

Gain Meaningful Clinical Experience Before Medical School

Are you a pre-med student, recent graduate, or future healthcare professional looking for meaningful, hands-on clinical experience?

A physician-owned ophthalmology practice in Bellevue is seeking a motivated and highly driven individual to train as an Ophthalmic Technician. No previous ophthalmology experience is required. We are willing to invest significant time and training into the right candidate who is eager to learn, takes initiative, and genuinely wants to grow in a clinical environment.

This is not an administrative or observational role. You will work directly with patients, learn ophthalmic examination techniques, perform diagnostic testing, document clinical information, and work closely with an experienced ophthalmologist and clinical team.

For someone considering medical school, PA school, optometry, or another clinical career, this role provides valuable exposure to direct patient care and the day-to-day operations of a specialty medical practice.

What You'll Learn

We will provide hands-on training in:

  • Obtaining detailed patient and ocular histories
  • Measuring visual acuity and intraocular pressure
  • Understanding common ophthalmic diseases and conditions
  • Ophthalmic terminology and clinical documentation
  • Performing diagnostic imaging and testing, including OCT, visual fields, and fundus photography
  • Preparing patients for physician examinations
  • Recognizing and appropriately communicating urgent ocular symptoms
  • Assisting with in-office procedures and patient education
  • Understanding clinical workflow and physician decision-making
  • Using an ophthalmology-specific electronic medical record system

As your knowledge and skills develop, you will take on greater responsibility and become an important part of supporting efficient, high-quality patient care.

Who We're Looking For

Clinical experience is helpful but not required. We are primarily looking for someone who is:

  • Highly motivated and self-directed
  • Genuinely interested in medicine and patient care
  • Eager to learn and asks thoughtful questions
  • Comfortable receiving direct feedback and coaching
  • Able to learn quickly and apply new information
  • Detail-oriented and dependable
  • Compassionate and comfortable working directly with patients
  • Professional and respectful in their communication
  • Willing to take initiative rather than waiting to be told every next step
  • Excited by a busy clinical environment and continued growth

A background in biology, health sciences, neuroscience, pre-medical studies, or a related field is a plus but is not required.

A Unique Opportunity for Future Healthcare Professionals

Our physician and management team enjoy teaching and developing individuals who are genuinely interested in healthcare.

The right candidate will have the opportunity to gain extensive direct patient care experience, develop specialty clinical skills, and work closely with an ophthalmologist in a small-practice environment.

For team members who demonstrate strong performance, professionalism, growth, and commitment to patient care, there may also be an opportunity to earn a meaningful physician letter of recommendation for future medical or professional school applications.

We understand that many candidates pursuing healthcare careers view roles like this as an important step in their professional journey. Our goal is to provide valuable clinical training and experience while expecting a high level of engagement, reliability, and commitment in return.

If you are looking for more than a job and want an opportunity to learn, grow, and gain meaningful clinical experience, we would love to hear from you.
