Real Estate Investment & Operations Intern

REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT & OPERATIONS INTERN
Pebble Creek Capital

PAY: $25/hour
SCHEDULE: Flexible, roughly 10 hours per week and designed to fit around classes
TIMING: Commitment from July 13, 2026 through May 2027 minimum, preferably longer
LOCATION: Chicago preferred for hybrid work; remote acceptable depending on tasks

Pebble Creek Capital is a Chicago-based residential real estate investment company. We acquire underperforming or distressed residential properties, renovate them, refinance them when appropriate, and hold them as rentals.

Pebble Creek Capital is looking for a motivated student who is genuinely interested in real estate and wants real exposure to how the business actually works.

This is not a coffee-run internship. This is a rare chance to get close to the day-to-day reality of residential real estate: finding deals, evaluating properties, coordinating renovations, working with vendors, managing rentals, solving tenant issues, tracking key deadlines, and helping real projects keep moving.

If you are curious about real estate investing, development, entrepreneurship, or small business operations, this role is designed to give you practical experience you will not get from a textbook or a classroom.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

You may help with things like:

• Screening potential real estate deals
• Researching properties, markets, vendors, and contractors
• Helping coordinate renovation and maintenance work
• Assisting with tenant move-ins and move-outs
• Organizing leases, documents, calendars, and deadlines
• Tracking rent payments and key property dates
• Getting insurance, utility, or vendor quotes
• Jumping in on day-to-day projects as they come up

The work will be varied. Some days may be research-heavy, some may involve operations, and some may involve helping solve whatever real estate issue needs attention that week.

WHY THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY

You'll work directly with Mitch and get a front-row look at how real estate decisions are made in the real world. Mitch has acquired and managed numerous residential properties and holds an MBA from Northwestern.

Mitch previously ran Cisco's intern program, where he hired more than 100 interns and built a strong understanding of what separates a meaningful early-career opportunity from resume filler. He takes the internship experience seriously and is looking for someone who wants real responsibility, high standards, direct feedback, and exposure to decisions that actually matter.

Mitch is happy to serve as a reference or write a recommendation letter for grad school or future jobs. There may also be opportunities over time to help manage vendors, contractors, or employees if that is something you want to grow into.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The most important requirements are:

• A real passion or curiosity for real estate
• Reliability
• Strong follow-through
• A proactive mindset: taking action without being asked because you see what needs to be done
• A can-do attitude
• Willingness to figure things out
• Interest in learning how the business works from the inside

No prior real estate experience is required.

BENEFITS

• Flexible schedule
• Direct mentorship and professional development
• A reference or recommendation letter for strong performance
• Opportunities to grow into managing vendors, contractors, or employees

People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply.

APPLICATION

In your cover letter, please answer the following:

• What are your long-term career goals? What steps have you taken toward those goals so far, and what steps do you plan to take in the future?
• How would you describe your preferred working style?
• Tell me about something you became genuinely interested in outside of class or work. How did you learn more about it?
• What interests you about this role?
