MKE Iron Erectors, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Safety Specialist to join our team. This position plays a critical role in protecting our employees, supporting our field operations, and driving a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

The Safety Specialist will be responsible for ensuring workplace compliance, supporting and training employees, and assisting with emergency action planning and risk management across multiple construction projects.

Position Summary

As a Safety Specialist with MKE Iron Erectors, Inc., you will be accountable for three primary areas of performance:

1. Workplace Compliance – Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and site-specific safety regulations and requirements.
2. Training & Workforce Support – Educate, coach, and support employees by providing safety knowledge, training, and real-time problem-solving assistance.
3. Emergency Action & Risk Management – Proactively identify, mitigate, and manage risks to employees, jobsites, equipment, property, and the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Workplace Compliance

• Conduct a minimum of 6 jobsite visits per week.
• Perform a minimum of 3 jobsite audits per week.
• Identify and correct physical and environmental hazards.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, NIOSH, EPA, DNR, and customer-specific requirements.
• Maintain safety records, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
• Conduct hazard assessments and jobsite safety analyses.

Training & Workforce Support

• Serve as the primary safety point of contact for field personnel.
• Conduct weekly toolbox talks for all active projects.
• Facilitate monthly Foreman Safety Meetings.
• Coordinate quarterly safety training events.
• Assist with annual company-wide safety meetings.
• Provide coaching, corrective actions, and real-time safety support.
• Maintain employee training records and training matrices.
• Identify training gaps through incident and trend analysis.

Risk Management & Incident Response

• Assist with site-specific safety plans and pre-job safety submittals.
• Investigate injuries, near misses, property damage incidents, and safety concerns.
• Collect witness statements and complete incident investigations.
• Support return-to-work and light-duty programs.
• Assist with insurance claims and risk mitigation efforts.
• Track and analyze safety metrics, including incident trends and EMR/MOD performance indicators.

Documentation & Analytics

• Maintain documentation related to:
  • Physical hazards
  • Behavioral hazards
  • Employee training and education
  • Employee safety files
  • Safety inspections and audits
  • Trends, analytics, and corrective actions
• Generate reports identifying opportunities for improvement and risk reduction.

Performance Expectations

Quarterly Performance Goals

• Complete 3 jobsite audits per week.
• Complete 6 jobsite visits per week.
• Conduct at least 1 toolbox talk per week.
• Maintain and improve the employee onboarding process.
• Analyze incident trends and identify training opportunities.
• Participate in annual safety program reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

Safety Culture Leadership

• Drive a proactive safety and risk management culture.
• Achieve a minimum of 2 documented safety wins each week.
• Promote accountability and continuous improvement.
• Support development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments for all scopes of work.
• Ensure Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and morning huddles are completed and documented on all projects.

Qualifications

Preferred Experience

• Construction safety experience preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
• Experience conducting inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
• Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel, foremen, project managers, and leadership.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital recordkeeping systems.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Compensation & Benefits

Position: Safety Specialist
Employment Type: Full-Time

Schedule:

• Monday – Friday
• Start Time: 7:00 AM
• 40 Hours Per Week

Compensation:

• $25.00 – $35.00 per hour
• Annual Earnings: $52,000 – $72,800

Performance Bonus:

• Eligible for annual performance bonus of up to 15% of annual wages based on achievement of key performance indicators and company objectives.
