ALDS is a psychology practice that offers a full range of diagnostic, educational, therapeutic, and clinical services specialized in meeting the needs of children, adolescents, and young adults with attention, learning, and developmental issues as well as supporting their parents and families.

Academic Coach

Academic coaches target executive functioning deficits in students through weekly sessions held 2+ times a week. Coaches help students develop organizational strategies and skills necessary for a successful student, such as time management, planning/prioritization, advocacy, and study skill awareness. Students range from elementary through college with various neurodevelopmental strengths and weaknesses as well as diverse diagnostic profiles and learning needs. Weekly paid supervision ($20/hour) is provided by a licensed mental health provider. Coaches meet with students in-person at our client's home or virtually ($30-$40/hour).
 

Expectations and Protections

We are looking for highly professional and responsible individuals who can travel to homes within the South Bay (Palos Verdes to El Segundo) to offer academic support to students with unique learning challenges. Safety precautions are taken for in-person sessions in accordance with CDC guidelines, state mandates, and family preferences. 

Coaches must be able to commit to a minimum 10 hours a week and maintain a consistent schedule for the duration of a school year. Total hours may exceed 10 if additional availability is provided. Required availability is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3pm - 8pm. There are additional opportunities for Sunday and daytime hours, but that availability is optional.

 

Required:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, or related field with work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years working with students/children
  • Minimum availability for 10 hours of coaching per week (must include Monday - Thursday afternoons)
  • Must live in the South Bay, near Torrance, Palos Verdes, or Manhattan Beach.
  • Must be able to drive to homes, schools, and community locations within the South Bay
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must have reliable transportation

Preferred: 

  • 2+ years working in an academic or therapeutic setting with students.
  • Experience working with neurodivergent children/families.
  • Master's degree (or current enrollment in graduate education) in related fields of study.

Pay range: Academic Coaches $30-$40 per session
