The State of Connecticut, Department of Labor (DOL) is currently recruiting to fill  two (2) Secretary 1 to support the agency's Appeals Division - one in Waterbury, and the other in Middletown, CT.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • SHIFT: first shift | full time | Monday through Friday 
  • SCHEDULE: 8:00AM - 4:30PM 
  • LOCATIONS: Middletown and Waterbury, CT
  • NOTE: Positions may become hybrid upon conclusion of a successful working test period.

YOUR ROLE

The Department of Labor's Appeals Division is comprised of the Referee Section and the Board of Review. The Employment Security Appeals Division is an autonomous, quasi-judicial agency housed in the Department of Labor. It primarily hears and decides appeals arising from decisions of the Administrator of the Connecticut Unemployment Compensation Act, from which it is statutorily independent.

In this position you will be providing support to the appeals division, including supporting Employment Security Appeals Referees. Responsibilities would include:

  • Processing incoming correspondence received by mail, fax, and in-person. 
  • Uploading documentary evidence into electronic appeals case files. 
  • Assisting parties with filing appeals. 
  • Answering questions from the public by telephone and in-person. 
  • Maintaining records of contact from parties to appeals. 
  • Registering parties for hearings. 
  • Interpreting written and verbal communications from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.
