Audio/Visual Director
The AV Director provides strategic leadership, administrative management, and technical oversight for all audio, visual, and lighting ministries at Desert Hills Bible Church. This role is responsible for maintaining core systems, managing technical infrastructure, and building dedicated volunteer teams to deliver an exceptional, distraction-free worship environment that seamlessly supports the music ministry and advances the broader mission of DHBC.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Sunday Operations & Technical Leadership
- Service Direction: Act as the technical service director for Sunday morning gatherings, ensuring all technical elements in the weekend workflow execute flawlessly, with technical staff and volunteers fully engaged and supported.
- Annual Commitment: Maintain consistent, hands-on technical execution by personally serving in an AV production capacity for a minimum of 46 Sunday mornings per calendar year.
- Team Development: Recruit, equip, schedule, and manage volunteer teams across Sunday morning services, special events, young adult ministries, and student ministries.
- Volunteer Training: Build clear, consistent training processes that equip volunteers to feel confident operating our tech systems.
- Staff Oversight: Provide collaborative direction, professional oversight, and routine support to the DHBC AV Assistant and Campus AV Coordinator.
2. Technical Systems, Production & Excellence
- Operations Oversight: Manage all audio, visual, streaming, and lighting operations in the Sanctuary, Room 204, and any on-campus events featuring live music elements. Oversee the Campus AV Coordinator to ensure that all church functions and ministries have adequate audio and visual support.
- System Optimization: Proactively oversee, maintain, and continually upgrade system architectures (including sound equipment, high-definition broadcast streams, digital signage/slides, and stage/room lighting).
- Technical Preparations: Oversee stage layouts and technical preparations for all mid-week rehearsals, special gatherings, young adult gatherings, student ministry gatherings, and corporate weekly services.
- Quality Benchmarks: Establish and uphold high technical and creative standards to ensure distraction- free execution across all ministry environments.
3. Strategic Administration & Stewardship
- Budgetary Management: Strategically manage and track the primary Sanctuary AV operational line budget. Work with the Campus AV Coordinator to manage and track the Campus AV operational line.
- Proactive Review: Conduct routine evaluations regarding structural resource needs, hardware lifecycle updates, and volunteer capacities. Anticipate audio/visual needs by reviewing the annual church calendar for upcoming events.
- Strategic Communication: Maintain consistent, forward-looking, and transparent communication with the Worship Director(s) regarding ministry status, health, and needs.
- Vendor Relations: Identify, vet, and contract external technical specialists and structural integration engineers for specialized architectural or system upgrades if/when needed.

Core Competencies & Technical Skills
- Live Audio Engineering: Exceptional front-of-house and broadcast audio mixing capabilities, preferably with experience handling a variety of ensembles (including full bands, choirs, vocal ensembles, and orchestral configurations).
- System Diagnostics: Advanced troubleshooting capabilities across multi-platform networks spanning audio routing, video switchers, DMX lighting, and streaming protocols.
- Project Coordination: Excellent organizational skills and attention to technical detail when managing event schedules and prepping technical assets before events begin.
- Relational Leadership: Great communication skills with an ability to explain technical needs clearly to non-technical volunteers and church leadership.

- Operating Systems: Apple / macOS Ecosystem
Experience & Credentials
- Professional Background: A minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience in professional live production or a church AV environment.
- Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Media Communication, Production Technology, or a related field is preferred, though real-world performance will be fully considered.
