Private Equity Intern
Location: Remote or Palm Beach, FL
Firm: TBD Investors
Start Date: Flexible
Time Commitment: Part-time during the school year or full-time during the summer
About TBD Investors
TBD Investors is a family office that backs exceptional searchers and entrepreneurs as they acquire, operate, and build enduring companies. We invest our own capital, often as a lead investor, and work closely with searchers across sourcing, diligence, acquisition execution, and post-close value creation.
We are industry agnostic, but we spend significant time in healthcare services, business services, consumer services, industrials, and other fragmented markets where great operators can build exceptional companies over time.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Private Equity Intern to support our investment team across market research, deal sourcing, investment analysis, and diligence. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to learn how private equity investing works from the ground up, especially in the search fund and lower middle market ecosystem.
The intern will work directly with the investment team and will have exposure to live deals, industry research, company analysis, and investment memos. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, highly organized, analytical, and excited about entrepreneurship through acquisition.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
- Researching attractive industries, market structures, competitors, and acquisition themes
- Building lists of companies, owners, brokers, and potential acquisition targets
- Supporting due diligence on live investment opportunities
- Reviewing CIMs, financial statements, customer data, and market materials
- Preparing short investment memos and industry summaries
- Helping evaluate searchers, CEOs, and acquisition opportunities
- Conducting competitor mapping and market sizing
- Supporting outreach, CRM updates, and pipeline tracking
- Assisting with content, case studies, and internal investment materials when relevant
What You Will Learn
This internship is designed to provide practical exposure to lower middle market private equity and search fund investing. The intern will learn how investors think about:
- Industry selection
- Founder and CEO evaluation
- Business quality
- Recurring revenue and customer retention
- Unit economics
- Healthcare and services diligence
- Deal structure
- Search fund investing
- Post-acquisition value creation
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Strong analytical and writing skills
- Interest in private equity, entrepreneurship, search funds, or lower middle market investing
- Ability to conduct independent research and synthesize findings clearly
- Comfort working with Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, and online research tools
- Strong attention to detail
- High ownership and willingness to operate in a fast-moving environment
- Prior finance, consulting, investment banking, private equity, search fund, or startup experience is helpful but not required
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who is hungry to learn, comfortable with ambiguity, and willing to do both analytical and unglamorous work well. We value people who ask good questions, write clearly, follow through, and care about understanding businesses deeply rather than just sounding smart about them.
