Position Summary
Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager, the Medical Assistant supports providers by performing a combination of clinical, administrative, and laboratory responsibilities. This role is an integral member of the care team, helping ensure efficient patient flow while providing compassionate, high-quality care to a diverse patient population.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, medical histories, and health screenings.
Perform clinical procedures including height, weight, blood pressure, vision screenings, urine testing, hematocrits, and PHQ-9 assessments.
Assist providers during patient visits and clinical procedures.
Coordinate referrals and assist with prior authorizations and durable medical equipment requests.
Document patient information accurately within the electronic health record (EHR).
Manage hospital discharge, emergency room, and patient follow-up tracking.
Clean, stock, and prepare exam rooms while maintaining infection control standards.
Perform quality assurance testing and maintain clinical inventory.
Respond to patient phone calls, portal messages, and appointment requests.
Assist with patient communication through phone calls, letters, and the patient portal.
Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
Support visiting nurse referrals and other care coordination activities.
Perform additional duties that support the mission of North Shore Community Health.
Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma or GED.
Graduate of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
Experience as a Medical Assistant, CNA, EMT, Phlebotomist, or another related healthcare role.
Students currently pursuing a healthcare-related degree are encouraged to apply.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification or willingness to obtain certification.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
Willingness to float between Salem, Peabody, and Gloucester locations, with occasional remote work responsibilities as assigned.
Preferred
Bilingual in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR), including GE Centricity.
Microsoft Office proficiency.
Previous experience in primary care, ambulatory care, or community health.
