Investment Analyst
Purpose and Nature of Work: The position, under the direct supervision of the Chief Investment Officer, contributes to the investment decision making process of a statutorily created public employees’ defined benefit retirement system of approximately 8,600 members, operating in a complex financial, legislative, and regulatory climate. The Investment Analyst is an essential member of the investment team for the Firefighters’ Retirement System (FRS). The FRS investment team serves a critical function to the Board of Trustees and their ability to make sound investment decisions. The Investment Analyst assists in monitoring and analyzing current investment strategies, evaluating current and prospective investment managers, researching topics related to asset allocation and manager selection, and creating investment models for tracking key metrics and risk management. This position may prepare and make presentations as needed, and attend and participate in educational opportunities, which may require travel.
Level of Work: Staff - Entry Level to Experienced
Supervision Received: Direct supervision from Chief Investment Officer and indirect and functional supervision from Executive Director.

Examples of Work: Assisting in cash management (forecasting sources/uses of cash, tracking cash flows, daily reconciliation, ensuring adequate liquidity), investment strategy analysis (active risk budgeting, research related to current and future strategies, idea generation), monitoring current manager roster (meet with managers, “deep dives” due diligence, review performance, ensure compliance with contracts/agreements), asset allocation analysis (create and maintain asset allocation models, apply statistical concepts and risk metrics to models, compile capital market assumptions, research assumption methodologies, analyze alternative mixes), manager selection (analyze RFP responses, perform due diligence on prospective managers, recommend finalists)
Qualification Requirements: Completed BS (or equivalent) college degree in Accounting, Actuarial Science, Business Analytics, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or Quantitative Analysis, supplemented with two years of relevant work experience in accounting, actuarial science, audit, economics, finance or investments, and commitment to pursue Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Substitutions:
Advanced degree may be substituted for two years of work experience.
