Job Overview

We’re opening a new Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard in Wood Dale IL, and we’re looking for a Store Manager who wants to help build something fun from day one.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who loves people, notices the details, keeps things organized, and enjoys creating a great experience for guests and team members. You’ll help launch the store, hire and train the team, set the tone for service, and make sure the day-to-day operation runs smoothly.

This is a great opportunity for an early-career leader or experienced shift supervisor/assistant manager who is ready for more ownership. If you’ve led people through work, school, athletics, clubs, restaurants, retail, hospitality, or customer service, we’d love to hear from you.

At Rita’s, we serve Italian ice, frozen custard, and happiness — ideally in that order, though we are willing to debate it.

What You’ll Do

As Store Manager, you’ll be the day-to-day leader of the shop. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead, train, coach, and motivate team members to deliver friendly, fast, and consistent guest service
  • Help recruit, hire, onboard, and schedule staff, especially during peak season
  • Create a positive team culture where people know what is expected and enjoy coming to work
  • Oversee daily store operations, including opening/closing, cash handling, cleanliness, guest service, and product quality
  • Maintain Rita’s brand standards for service, food safety, store appearance, and operations
  • Monitor inventory, supplies, and product levels to keep the store ready for busy days
  • Handle guest questions, concerns, and feedback with professionalism and good judgment
  • Support local marketing, community events, and neighborhood outreach
  • Track basic store performance, labor, sales, and operating priorities
  • Communicate regularly with ownership about what is working, what needs attention, and where the team needs support

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who is reliable, upbeat, organized, and ready to lead. You do not need to have managed a store before, but you do need to care about doing things the right way.

Strong candidates may have experience in restaurants, retail, hospitality, customer service, athletics, campus leadership, clubs, or other team-based environments.

You may be a great fit if you are:

  • Friendly, confident, and comfortable leading a team
  • Detail-oriented without needing to be reminded 47 times that the floor is sticky
  • Organized and able to manage schedules, tasks, supplies, and priorities
  • Good with people, including guests, employees, parents, and ownership
  • Comfortable coaching younger team members and setting clear expectations
  • Calm under pressure when the line gets long and everyone suddenly needs sprinkles
  • Willing to work nights, weekends, and peak seasonal shifts
  • Excited to help launch a new local business and take ownership of the store’s success

Helpful Experience

Experience in any of the following is helpful, but not required:

  • Restaurant, ice cream, coffee shop, fast casual, or retail leadership
  • Shift lead, assistant manager, team captain, resident assistant, club officer, or campus leadership experience
  • Hiring, training, scheduling, or supervising employees
  • POS systems and cash handling
  • Inventory, ordering, food safety, or store opening/closing procedures
  • Local marketing, social media, community events, or school/community outreach

Compensation & Benefits

  • Expected compensation: $50,000 – $60,000 annually, depending on experience
